Joseph W. Bado, 89, passed away at Parkview Gardens on Sunday, May 16, 2021. He was born in Racine on January 12, 1932 the son of the late Sylvester and Agnes (nee: Smolko) Bado.

Joe attended Steven Bull Elementary School, Franklin Junior High School, and St. Catherine's High School. He received a basketball scholarship to Marquette University. Joe also attended the University of Wisconsin and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Joe coached CYO basketball, Pee-Wee softball, and grade school baseball. Joe earned his varsity letters in basketball, baseball and football while at St. Catherine's and was a member of the Monogram Club. He was inducted into the St. Catherine's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000. He competed in regional and national competitions in gymnastics, basketball, and track.

On February 14, 1960, in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, he was united in marriage to Barbara Kwiecinski, who preceded him in death on December 11, 1996. On July 24, 1999, in St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, he was united in marriage to Marian D'Acquisto Kopp.

Joe served his country with the U. S. Army and was assigned as an MP while stationed in Frankfurt Germany.  Joe was awarded the Korean War Medal, The German Occupational Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal.  He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, the Sales and Marketing Club, the Lions Club, where he served as vice-president, the American Legion Post #310, the Power Equipment Institute, Roma Lodge, Charter Member and Past- President of the St. Catherine's Alumni Association, and the University of Wisconsin Alumni Association-Kenosha Chapter. For over 40 years, Joe served in managerial positions at Western Publishing Jacobsen/Textron, Culligan, and Charmglow.

Surviving are his wife Marian, her children, Karen (Joel) Horwich, of Buffalo Grove, IL, and David Kopp, of White Bear Lake, MN, their children, Sarah Horwich, Emily Horwich, Abigail Kopp, and Jillian Kopp, brother, Syl (Marvie) Bado, of Racine, sisters-in-law, Sue Bado, also of Racine, and  Mary Ann Kwiecinski,  in Texas. His nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends also survive him. In addition to his parents and late wife Barbara, Joe was preceded in death by his son, William, and his sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Harry Mielcarek, and brother, Frank Bado, brothers-in-law, Warren Kwiecinski, Joseph D'Acquisto, sister-in-law, Antoinette Totero, and nephews, Tom Mielcarek, Harry Mielcarek, and Michael Bado.

Service Details

His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring Street, on Tuesday, May 25 ^th at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. William

Dietzler officiating. Visitation will be in the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Full military honors will take place following the Mass.
