Judvia Hopkins

Feb 3, 1962 – Jan 30, 2025

Service Details

Family and friends are invited to meet at Compassion Tabernacle UHCA (2044 Mead Street) on Saturday, February 15, 2025, for a time to gather from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm and hear remarks from family and friends.  Elder Ray McNeal will be officiating.

Judvia “Juvida” Hopkins, 62, was called home by her Lord and Savior on January 30, 2025. She was born in Racine, Wisconsin on February 3, 1962, to Ruby Mae Hopkins (nee: Carter) and the late Finner Wayne Hopkins, both of New Albany, Mississippi. She was the fourth of their five children.

Juvida was a 1980 High School graduate of Washington Park High School, Racine, WI. She was selected as a 1979 Wisconsin Badger Girl. Her athleticism in track and cross-country earned her numerous trophies, medals, and plaques acknowledging her Outstanding Achievements. In 1978 The Racine Journal Times recognized her as a member of the  All-County Girls Track Team. She also placed 13th in the State Cross-Country meet in her Junior year of High School. In 1992 she graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy. She was named on the Dean’s list. Since 1998, she also worked part-time as a Long-term Substitute Teacher with the Racine Unified School District.

In February of 2001, Judvia was united in marriage with Marcus E. Hodges. Their union was blessed with a special son, Edward Finner Wayne Hodges. She raised her son in Racine, Wisconsin. Parenting her son was her greatest joy and challenge. She and her son were Blessed with “Continuous Favor”  from her Lord! (and Savior!).  She enjoyed time with family and friends, volunteering, cultivating plants, gardening, singing, writing, and drawing.

Her relationship with the Lord began early in her childhood. She grew up attending Compassion Tabernacle, United Holy Church of America, under the leadership of Elder John Smith and Mother Juanita Smith. Later in life she and her son attended Racine Assembly of God under the leadership of pastors Edward and Angela Walker. There she sang in the seasonal choir, volunteered during the Vacation Bible School, and served as a Greeter. In addition, Judvia diligently served as a board member of the Racine Kiwanis Youth Symphony Orchestra.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved son, Edward Finner Wayne Hodges, of Madison, WI., her mother, Ruby Mae Hopkins of Racine WI., her siblings Timothy Wayne Hopkins of North Folk, VA., Jeanette Williams, Tammy Lynn Hopkins, Darlene (Ray) McNeal, and Angela (Billy) Gentry all of Racine, WI., Aunts: Deloise McLemore, Lula Grace Little, and LueElla Carter, Uncle Alford Lee “Bubba” Carter; nieces and great-nieces, nephews and great-nephews, and cousins; Godparents Elder John Smith and Mother Amanda Smith, Godson-nephew Thomas T. Hopkins, “Big Sister” Elder Lynda D. Jackson, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her dedicated father, Finner Wayne Hopkins (October 23, 2021), grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Testimonials

December 1, 2023

My siblings and I recently had the unfortunate experience of having to plan a funeral for our beloved mother – Juana Munoz. During this difficult time, we were fortunate enough to come across a funeral home that truly went above and beyond what was expected. Their attention to detail and dedication to ensuring our comfort and safety throughout the entire process was truly remarkable. From the moment we stepped foot into the funeral home, we were greeted with warmth and compassion. The staff members, but specifically Mark was incredibly understanding and empathetic, making us feel at ease during such a challenging time. Mark took the time to listen to our needs and wishes, and his guidance and support were invaluable. One aspect that truly stood out was Mark’s meticulous attention to detail. He paid close attention to every aspect of the funeral arrangements, ensuring that nothing was overlooked. From the floral arrangements to the music selection, every detail was carefully considered and executed flawlessly. Mark even noticed that the temperature in the room was getting warm and promptly adjusted it to ensure our comfort. What impressed me the most was their commitment to our safety. Mark and his team took every precaution to ensure that our family and guests were protected throughout the entire process. From the funeral home to the cemetery, Mark made sure that all safety measures were in place, including providing hand sanitizers, and even arranging for additional staff members to assist with crowd control. Furthermore, Mark’s professionalism and organization was evident in every aspect of the funeral service. He coordinated seamlessly with the cemetery staff, ensuring a smooth transition from the funeral home to the final resting place. Their attention to detail and commitment to excellence truly made a difference in our overall experience. In addition to their exceptional service, the funeral home also provided us with resources and support beyond the funeral itself. They offered grief counseling services and connected us with local support groups, which proved to be invaluable during our grieving process. Overall, we cannot express enough gratitude for the exceptional service provided by Mark, and broader, Draeger Langendorf team. Their attention to detail, commitment to our safety, and genuine compassion made a difficult time a little more bearable. I highly recommend their services to anyone in need of funeral arrangements, as they truly go above and beyond to ensure that every detail is taken care of and that families are supported throughout . the entire process. – Epifanio and The Munoz Family
