Karen Kay Glasenapp

Oct 1, 1939 – Aug 13, 2014

Racine – Karen Kay Glasenapp, 74, passed away at All Saints Hospital on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, after a sudden and unexpected illness. She was born in Grantsburg, Wisconsin on October 1, 1939, daughter of the late Arvid and Gladys (nee: Erickson) Olson. On September 12, 1959 she was married to her high school sweetheart, Richard A. Glasenapp in Oronoco, Minnesota.

For many years Karen and Richard made their home and raised their family in Faribault, Minnesota. Karen also worked at the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf. Following retirement, they moved in 1999 to Racine to be nearer to their children and grandchildren. Karen was a loving wife and mother, whose greatest joy in life was caring for her family. She was an extraordinary woman who enjoyed cooking, baking, golfing, and was proud to be a lifelong Vikings fan. Vacation time at the lake, surrounded by her entire family, was always one of the highlights of the year for her. Karen was a member of Somers Community United Church of Christ.

Karen is survived by her husband, Richard Glasenapp of Racine; their daughters, Julie Ann-Glasenapp (James) Soyka of Racine, and Laurie Lin-Glasenapp (Michael) Reid of Northbrook, Illinois; She was Nana to her six grandchildren, Matthew and Nicole Soyka, Brianna, Ryan, Michael, and Megan Reid; her sister, Shirl Reiser of Phoenix, Arizona; and many other relatives and friends.

Memorial services for Karen will be held at Somers United Church of Christ, 9918 12th Street, Kenosha, WI 53144 at 6:00p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2014 with Rev. Kathleen Gloff officiating. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Somers Community United Church of Christ have been suggested.

Sincere thanks are extended to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the ER and ICU at All Saints for the high quality care and compassion given to Karen and her family at a very difficult time.
