Journey of Life

Kevin L ydell Ste wart, S enior was born on August 13 , 1 9 59 to the union of t he late E a rnest J . Stewart (decea sed) and Doris Dean T rammel Stewart , in M agnolia , Arkansas. Kevin was born at the home of his great-grandfather Reverend Benjamin Harper , located on Harper Road near Calhoun Road .  Kevin was de livered by midwif e Willie L ee Tillmer ; also p resent for his birth was his Aunt Georgia D ell Russ. Kevin, Sr. , on J anuar y 1 , 202 2 , under care at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapoli s , Minnesota , exited this life on earth to go be with h is Father in Heave n.

Kev in Se nior acc epted Jesus Christ as h is LORD and SAVIOR at t he early age of six . He was baptize d b y the late Reverend Mack. C. Davis at Sec ond Missionary Baptist Church in Racine , Wiscons in .

Kevi n was a Racine native who graduated from Washington Park High Scho ol , l a te r attending Parkside University for studies in Business A dministration , followed by Real Estate Services . Kevin was a comprehensive man who was very meticulous with his speech . He pos sessed a wea lth o f knowledg e. Kevin worke d as a drug and alcohol / menta l h ealth counsel or in collaboration with Tu ning Point Inc. and continued educating the young ge ner at i on thr ough his work a t the Life Star Driving School , of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Kevin was a devoted son to his mother, Mrs. Doris D. Stewart.  He made sur e t o travel home to Racine, WI to prepare a special holiday mea l, in clusive of a ll her favorite en tr e es, f or e ach Mother ' s Day and Than ksgiving Day , as well as mini st ered to his mother is num erous other ways.  Kevin was hospitable to family and friends . He w a s an exquisite coo k , and the head ch ef for " Racine Day In The Park " for many year s. He often prepare d delicious , and healthy, meals for those who visited with him in Minnea polis, M innesota.

Kev in la t er joined the Zion Baptist Chu rch of M inneapoli s , Minne sota near the year 201 0 , under t he leadership of Reverend Brian Herron , Pastor . K evi n b eg a n at tend ing the Zion Baptist Church after he heard a Worship Service on the radio .  Ke vi n then wanted to go an d hear the preacher in person and to meet him. K evin served on the leadership team for The Men ' s Mi nistry and wa s also part of the Evan gel ism Team D.O.T .S. (Disciples On The Streets). Kevin was continuously present with Pastor Herron for the Zion Ba pti st Church ministry events. He was faithful and alwa ys to ld the Pastor ' whenever and wherever you go please let me know so I can be there to support yo u an d watch your back cause I ain't scared. '

Kevin faithfully attended and participated in Bible S tud y a nd Sunday Morning Worship service. If Zion Baptist Ch urc h didn't see Kevin it's because he had gone home to see his mother or he wa sn't fe eling well. K evin additionally worked with an d helped with the 21 D ays of P eace I nitiative, a Black Church Blac k Pas tor le d interve nti on to decrease the violence in the c ommunity on the Northside of Minneapolis . Zion Baptist Church partnered with anot her church and be gin to be present on the block at one of the hots pots that was identified as a very troubled and v iolen t area. Kevin , tr ue to form , would be there faithfull y .  Kevin ha nd ed out B ibles , that he would sign , to the brothers and sisters o ut t her e on the block . The Zion Baptist Church could always count on Kevin to be there; it was a true ministry of pres ence that the Church ac tively engage s in to this day. Kevi n was a very important and vital part of the ministry at Zion and was the Pasto r ' s co nfidant, frien d, and self appointed Armor Guard. Kevin could also b e found sharing words of admonishment and e ncour agement to young er men in his neighborhood.  He not on ly shared enc ouraging w ords, but he also shared his personal resources to help boo st the morale of those young people. He joine d with others of his Chur ch and otherwi se, f or special outreach event s for those in need. Kevin secured men ' s suits for communi ty giv e-away events , shared in offering free hair-cuts, and boldly shared element s of the W ORD of G od. Kevin indeed followed th e inst ructions given by Chri st Jesus , Matt hew 28:19-20: " Go ye therefore, and teach all nation s, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost :  teaching them to observe all thin gs whatsoever I have commanded you: and , lo, I a m with you al way, even unto the end of the world. " Brother Kevin, Sr. was prolific as a BOLD witness for Jesus the C hr ist , as LORD and Savior.

K evin later began a non-profit organization called " Homeles s Men's P roject " which h elp s homeless me n obt ain self-sufficiency th rough personal dev elopment progr ams that provide housing, drug and alc ohol counseling , employment , e tc .

Kevin loved roller skating , danc ing , ' shooting ' pool, and watch ing " every " (footba ll, baseball, basketball, hockey, etc. ) sport s game . He enjoyed sharing ideas, wisdom, and good conver sation with family/ fri en d s. H e was a mo ver and a shaker. Kevin was a g ood and faithful f ather /grandfather a nd f riend to many. He touched many lives with his gene rous but straightforward appro ach. He will b e missed.

Stewart, J r. and one dau ght er , Desiree Veasey ; grandchildren : Leah and Malik Wilson ; Mother: Doris D. S t ewart ; two sister s : Sonja Je annetta Stewa rt Ra chal (Fre ddie, dec eased) and She lia Stewart (Paul Cr ayton) ; n iece s and nephews: Pe ter Bland, Al lisia Stewart, Moniq ue West, Shahm al An thony, and Joy Simmons (Abraham III) ; cousins: Keith Allen, Adrian Warren, Curtis Weaver, and Sherri L. Garret t Jackson (Henry Jackson) ; and life-long friends that inclu de : Rhonda Marsh, Hann ibal Chambe rs, Ronn ie Petty, Barr y Thompson, and He nry Conners. Additionally, to cherish h is memory , are a ho st of re lati ves that includ e aunts, great-grand nep he ws and nieces , a nd cousin s . Also , to cherish loving memories are numerous f riends and h is Zi on Baptist Ch urch family of Minneap olis , MN .

Kevin was proceeded in dea th by, his f ather: E arn est J. Stewart, br o thers: Archi e Lee Stewart and Boyce Wayne Stewart ; g randfather: Ira Stewart ; gr andmother : Azzie L ee . Stewart ; great-grandfather : Rev erend Benjamin H arper; great-grandmo ther : Adella Beck ett Harp er ; nephew : Don ovan Jevon Sande rs , and great ne phew: Ty ' R ese West and Ja ' Money Bland.

Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory on Monday, JANUARY 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. for the celebration of Kevin's life and Homegoing.  There will be a visitation in the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.   He will be interred at West Lawn Memorial Park following the service at the funeral home.
