Kim (Kimmy) McWhorter 59, on the dawn of a new day she was called Home by her Loving Savior on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 surrounded by her family at St. Catherine’s Medical Center in Kenosha, Wisconsin. She was born in Racine, Wisconsin on April 29, 1958 to James and Maggie (nee: Roberson) McWhorter.
Kim was employed as a Dental Assistant at the Southern Wisconsin Center for over 20 years. She was a long-time member of AFSCME Local #892 where she was elected Recording Secretary and served in that capacity for over a decade. Kim was an enthusiastic advocate for union workers. She attended many state and national union conventions and was also active in the Democratic Party of Wisconsin and the Racine Labor Council.
Kim was also an avid bowler and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She did not meet any strangers. Despite battling MS for many years, Kim never gave up her will to be independent. She was a fighter and never complained. She accepted Christ at a very young age and served as a Sunday School teacher and devoted choir member at St. John’s Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder EC Carter. Kim last attended Greater Grace Temple Church.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her mother, Maggie McWhorter, siblings, Ronald (Mu’minah) Mahdi, of Boston, Gail McWhorter, Debbie (Lionel) Perkins, Rodney (Kerrisha) McWhorter, all of Racine. Kim is further survived by her nieces, nephews, special cousins Tammie and Denise McWhorter, special friends Mildred Monroe and Jana Weaver and a host of other relatives and friends. Kim was preceded in death by her father, James McWhorter, step-father Calvin Caldwell and brother and sister-in-law Willie James and Lynn McWhorter-Marchant.
Her Homegoing Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 12th, in Greater Grace Church, 522 N. Memorial Drive, with Pastor Jerry Cornett officiating. Visitation will be held in the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.

I’m so sorry to hear about Kim. …my most sincere condolences.
I worked in management at SWC during the 70s-80s, its Heyday, and had the opportunity to meet with Kim many times for grievances, labor management meetings and disciplinary hearings.
She was a true advocate for her union members. She was very professional in her actions with me. I had to be prepared…because I knew she was.
Maggie, I’m so sorry for your loss.
