Kurt K. Rasmussen, 56, died at his home on Thursday, July 20, 2006 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Racine on May 9, 1950 to Henry and Bernice (nee: Nielsen) Rasmussen. On August 19, 1978 he married the former Barbara Lynn Olson. Kurt served his country in the Mediterranean with the US Navy during the Vietnam War and re-enlisted for six more years in 1992 during the Bosnian War with 128th Air National Guard. Kurt was a proud member of I.B.E.W. Local 430. Although an electrician by training, he received more gratification from teaching than applying his trade. He loved sharing his knowledge at both the high school and technical college levels. Kurt enjoyed his free time fishing, watching NASCAR and spending his time with Barbara and Justin. In addition to his loving wife, Barbara of Racine and son, Justin Rasmussen of Appleton, he is survived by his mother, Bernice Rasmussen; sister, Barbara Rasmussen; brother, Leif Rasmussen of Whitehall, WI; father-in-law, James Olson of Mesa, AZ; brothers-in-law, Tom Olson of El Paso, TX, James Olson of Anoka, MN; aunt, Irene Berg of Milwaukee; uncle, Ernie (Ginny)Boye of Racine, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. His father, Henry Rasmussen; sister, Lois McClure and mother-in-law, Grace Olson preceded him in death. Family and friends are invited to meet at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Friday, August 4, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. for the celebration on Kurt's life with Rev. Dr. Stephen D. Samuelson officiating. Inurnment will follow after military honors. Memorials in Kurt's name have been suggested to the American Cancer Society and Covenant Home Hospice. Barb and Justin wish to thank everyone at Covenant Home Hospice, especially Enoc and Barb and Dr. Aileen Benjakul from the VA Clinic in Union Grove for the loving care their entire family received during Kurt's illness.
