Larry Platt Lathrop passed away at the age of 87, Wednesday, August 27, 2025, surrounded by family at Ridgewood Care Center in Racine, WI, following several years with Dementia. He was born May 20, 1938 in Boscobel, WI.  The son of Harold and Millie (Boak) Lathrop.  He married Jane Schnuck on June 22, 1986, at the First Baptist Church in Clinton, WI.

Larry served in the U.S. Army Reserve and U.S National Guard, being honorably discharged in 1963.  He was a land surveyor and retired after more than 30 years of employment with General Motors in Janesville, WI.  Larry was a very talented wood worker.  He made many beautiful picture frames, benches, quilt racks, and lamps for his grandchildren.  Larry loved his family and was fiercely protective of them.  He enjoyed spending time with them; always teasing they had to leave at a certain time.  He preferred his quiet time watching westerns and murder shows, or shopping antique shops with his wife and best friend.  He was a pet parent and spoiled his many beloved dogs.  He had a very special bond with his pugs Teddy and Tess.

He is survived by his wife Jane Lathrop, Sturtevant, WI.  Sons, Steve (Debbie) Lathrop, Green Valley, AZ, Eric (Kim) Lathrop, Wentzville, MO, son-in-law Glen Phillips, Janesville, WI, step-children DJ (Judy) Deschler, Manawa, WI, Kim (Bruce) Bartel, Sturtevant, WI, Shellie Seickert, Mosinee, WI.  Grandchildren, Korby Lathrop, Jacob (Nicole) Lathrop, Caitlin Gutoski, Lilly Lathrop, Matt (Megan) Deschler, Tiffany (John) Deschler, Anthony (Kelli) Crouse, Nichole (Corbias) Deschler, Jacob (Katie) Bartel, Seth (Jamie) Bell, Stephanie Bell, Cristin (David) O’Connor, Kasey Bell, Cheyenne (Carter) Bell.  Great-grandchildren, Royal, Will, Max, Ella, Reese, Arcelia, Onyx, Willow, Silas, Ezra, Corrina, Lennox, Roman, Mackenzie, Olivia, Chase, Teneille, Willow.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Millie Lathrop, a daughter Cheryl Phillips, a step-daughter Bonnie Deschler, great-granddaughter Iris, and three brothers LaVon Lathrop, Lyle Lathrop, and LeRoy Lathrop.

Larry’s family extends their appreciation to Ridgewood Care Center 2E staff and Hospice Alliance.

Testimonials

Sincere Gratitude

I can’t express my gratitude enough to Mike and the Draeger-Langendorf staff for such great service provided to us, as we made arrangements to lay our brother to rest. You all went above and beyond to make sure we understood every detail there was to know, from the greatest to the smallest. When we walked out of your office, we walked out with peace, knowing that our brother was in good hands. Thank you Mike for adding that special touch to my brother’s service, that’s the kind of stuff that separates you all from the rest. Once again Thank you so much.
