~~Ms. Laurel Jeanette Alexander was born on February 20, 1947 to the union of Curtis and Velma Alexander (nee: Pitt) in Evansville, Indiana.
Laurel received her high school diploma at Benjamin Bosse High School in Evansville, Indiana. Furthering her education at UW Parkside getting her nursing degree and later on in life attending Gateway Technical College receiving her Associates degree in accounting.
Laurel accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age under the guidance of her grandfather Elder Jessie Pitt in Evansville, Indiana. Laurel moved to Racine Wisconsin around the year 1969 and began attending church services at Grace Temple COGIC and eventually joining Mt. Calvary COGIC (now known as Shekinah Glory Family Worship Center) under the leading of Pastor David W. Jackson. Laurel served as a Sunday School Teacher and later joined the Mothers Board also serving as Pastors aide.
Laurel was employed by Moxness Products as a quality assurance inspector until the company closed. Later working at National Fire as a customer service call representative. After National Fire Laurel went into early retirement.
Laurel loved spending time spreading the Gospel to whomever she could, she also loved spending time with family. Laurel began a company called Getting the Message Out where she made tracks and religious cards. Soon after finding out she had cancer, Laurel started another company called Laurel’s Gems, where she made scripture jewelry.
After a winning battle with cancer Laurel departed this life on June 5, 2016 due to a weak heart. Laurel was preceded in death by her mother Velma Alexander, Stepmother Dovie Alexander and a brother Dwight Alexander
Laurel leaves to cherish her memory her father Curtis (Deloris) Alexander; Daughters Alexis (Jeffery) Jones and Charlese Alexander both of Racine; Brother Elder Larry Alexander of Tulsa, OK; Sisters Adrienne (John) Johnson of Lexington, KY; Patrice (Johnny) Hughes of Troy, MI; Eulalia (Timothy) Barnes of Detroit, MI; Grandchildren Cymeon Alexander, Natalie Jones, Lynnaya Jones, Mikayla Alexander, and Aaron Shannon; Great-grandchildren Javion, Jordan, Jayla, Cymeonna and Kaylionna Alexander all of Racine; and a host of other friends and relatives and her Shekinah Glory family.
The family would like to give a special thanks for all the prayers that went up for her and to Dr. Ryan Engle, Dr. James Tierney, and all the doctors and nurses that took care of her at Wheaton Franciscan hospital.
~~A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, June 11th, 11:00am Shekinah Glory Family Worship Center (Inside St. Andrews Luthern Church), 1015 4 Mile Rd. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00am until the time of service. Interment will take place at West Lawn Memorial Park.
