MT. PLEASANT – ~~Deacon Leslie W. Jennings Jr. was born December 10, 1938 to the union of Leslie W. Jennings Sr. and Estellar Jennings of Crockett County, Tennessee. Deacon Jennings, also known as L.W., received his formal education in Maury City, Tennessee. After graduating from high school, he moved to Racine, Wisconsin for summer work and decided to stay, later joining the US Army. At a young age he accepted Christ as his Savior and was united with Grace Temple Church of God In Christ located on 12th Street in Racine, Wisconsin. His love and dedication for God and the Church allowed him to be appointed to the Deacon's Board, where he served for more than 30 years. Deacon Leslie W. Jennings Jr. was united in marriage to Mother Shirlean Jennings on June 10, 1964.  To that union was born two children, Bryan K. Jennings Sr. and Tamera L. Jennings-Stanley. The family soon expanded to include Kennetra L. Powell and Keandra M. Powell. Their desire to care for others extended well beyond their small family. The Jennings family opened their home, their lives, and shared their love with many including Margery and Percy Coulson-Clark (Blue Fields, Nicaragua). Deacon Jennings was an employee of Chrysler Corporation (formerly American Motors), Southern Wisconsin Center, and Brandt's Jewelers. He often worked as many as three jobs at one time. He took great care of his family and provided accordingly. He was a hard – working man that always made time to serve others. He volunteered at St. Catherine's Hospital in Kenosha as well as assisting many local neighbors and friends.  He was best known for his kind and gentle spirit. Many remember him for his ability to make a guitar talk. After serving in the military and returning to Racine he joined and played for some of our areas greatest gospel singers. He was a faithful member of the Mighty Golden Jubilees for more than 50 years.  He now leaves behind his faithful brothers in Christ, Rev. Willie Riley, Deacon Willie Harris, Arthur Riley, son Bryan Jennings Sr., and grandson Bryan Jennings Jr. Deacon Jennings departed from his labor to get his reward on Tuesday, May 17th, 2016. He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirlean Jennings; mother, Estellar (nee: Robertson) Jennings; father Leslie W. Jennings Sr, brother Rochester Nash, sisters Katherine Powell, and Adeanna Vaughn. His legacy will continue to live through his loving children, son, Bryan (Tracy) Jennings; daughters, Tamera (Leotha) Stanley,  Kennetra Powell, Keandra Powell; grandchildren, Bryan Jennings Jr., Jared Jennings, Airman First Class Kourtney Jennings, Tajhmer Carson, Julius Carson, Kamron Carson, Gabrielle Carson, Keion Spencer; great grandchildren, Isaiah, Bryonna, Brydan, Neveah, two special brothers-in-law, Jimmie Blackwell and George Holman; two God daughters, Marsha Conner and Audrey Reed; nieces, nephews and a host of very dear relatives and friends. .  A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, May 25th, 6:00pm at Greater Grace Temple COGIC, 522 N. Memorial Dr. Vis itation will be at the church from 4:00pm until the time of service.  Burial will take place on Thursday, May 26th, 10:00am at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.
