Lillie Mae Mitchell, also known as “Candy Girl”, age 90, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2026. Born in Shelby, Mississippi, on January 1, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Alee and Cora Lee (nee: Buckner) Glass. She later moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin, where she met and married the love of her life, Handy Mitchell, in 1957. Together they built a loving home in Wisconsin and shared many happy years devoted to family, faith, and creating lasting memories. From this union, three children were born: Warren, Charlene, and Helen. Sadly, her beloved husband, Handy Mitchell, preceded her in death in December 2006. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to love, devotion, and partnership that endured throughout the years. Lillie Mae was employed for over forty years at Kenosha Hospital and retired from Kenosha Memorial Hospital, where she had been employed for many years. She was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church since moving to Kenosha and was president of the Ushers Board. She enjoyed playing bingo and taking a chance on the lottery.  Left to cherish her memory are her children, Warren (Melissa) Mitchell; grandchildren, Precious Mitchell, Alexis Mitchell, and Ebony Mitchell; great-grandson, Marcus Mitchell; bonus grandchildren, Marisa Swanigan, Deontae Swanigan, and Treveon Swanigan; bonus great-grandchildren, Maddisyn Swanigan and Malachi Swanigan;  brother and sister, George Holmes and Wynette Green;  nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends also survive her. In addition to her parents, husband, and two daughters, Charlene Mitchell and Helen Mitchell Louis, Lillie Mae was preceded in death by her siblings, Rosie Ross, Thomas Glass, Cora Foster, and Isiah Glass, as well as her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joe Green, Gerleen Bowie, and Hezekiah Bowie.

The family extends special thanks to Kenosha Brookside Care Center and Aurora Home Hospice for the exceptional care and kindness shown to our dear Lillie.

Testimonials

Thank you. When my

Thank you.
When my father and I would talk about his wishes for when he would leave this world, he always asked me who I would trust to treat his body with respect and dignity.
Always, without hesitation, I would respond with saying “Draeger”.
From someone who works in end of life care, I have witnessed the respect and dignity first hand for many years.
It was a pleasure working with Carly and having the reassurance that my father was in good hands <3
You all are truly a blessing!
Thank you.
