Lois J.
Frederiksen
Aug 5, 1923 — Jul 25, 2014
Racine – Lois Jean (nee: Nelson) Frederiksen, age 90, passed away peacefully at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare – All Saints Medical Center on Friday evening, July 25, 2014 surrounded with the love and presents of her family.
A lifelong resident of Racine, Lois was born on August 5, 1923 to the late Peter and Mathilda (nee: Andersen) Nelson. In her adolescent and early adulthood years Lois was a hostess and switchboard operator at the Nelson Hotel which was owned and operated by her father. She graduated from Washington Park High School in 1942 and went on to earn a Music Degree from Wisconsin College of Music. With great passion and appreciation for music – Lois taught voice, directed choirs and shared her gift as a soloist in many local churches. Lois was a proud member of First Presbyterian Church.
Outside of music, Lois enjoyed gardening; bird watching; traveling with family & friends; shopping; playing cards; and keeping an impeccable home. In recent years, Lois was active in the P.E.O. Sisterhood – Chapter AR. She also volunteered with St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary and the W.F.W.C. Women's Club of Racine – of which she was Past-President. Above all she treasured spending quality time with her family – of whom she shared a home with since 2000.
Surviving are her cherished family: son & daughter-in-law, Jim & Tracy Frederiksen; grandchildren (who affectionately called Lois "Nana"), Adam and Nikki Frederiksen; devoted friends, Leah Fisher and Peggy Rammelt; and many other friends.
In addition to her parents and her sister, Jeanette, Lois was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 31 years, Allen J. Frederiksen in 1991.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Saturday from 10 am – 12 noon. A reception and open house will follow at Lois' home – all friends are encouraged to attend. In accordance to Lois' wishes, cremation has taken place and private interment will be held in Mound Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial to RADD (Recreational Activities for the Developmentally Disabled, Racine, WI) has been suggested.
A heartfelt note of thanks to the entire staff of Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Hospital (especially the doctors & nurses of ICU) for the compassionate care and support given in our time of need. May God bless all of you!
