Louise Damaschke

Jul 8, 1918 – Jan 17, 2014

Racine – Louise Martha Mata (nee: Litzkow) Damaschke, age 95, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday evening, January 17, 2014.

A lifetime resident, Louise was born in Racine on July 8, 1918 to the late Frederick and Anna (nee: Zessin) Litzkow. She was confirmed into her Lutheran faith on May 28, 1933 in St. John’s Lutheran Church. Louise graduated from William Horlick High School on June 18, 1937. During WWII, she was a faithful nurse aid with the American Red Cross and proud volunteer with the United Service Organization. Shortly after, Louise was employed at Modine Manufacturing.  During that time in her life, she met a handsome young man, Paul C. Damaschke. Louise and Paul were united in marriage on January 18, 1947 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. After moving to the southside of Racine, they became active members of Epiphany Lutheran Church. All too soon, Paul passed away in 1970.

As a very efficient and accomplished typist, Louise proudly spend hours on her typewriter for others – especially creating menus for her brother, Fred’s, restaurant on Douglas Avenue – Park Inn. She was an extremely talented musician who enjoyed singing and playing the piano. Years ago, Louise was a member of the Sweet Adelines. Always striving to stay active, she enjoyed swimming and rode her bicycle well into her late 70’s. Above all, Louise was a tremendous wife, mother and grandmother who absolutely cherished being in the surroundings of her entire family.

Surviving are her daughter Eloise “Ellie” Damaschke; son, Donald (Lynn) Damaschke; grandson, David (Kendra) Damaschke; great-grandson, Colton Joseph Damaschke; sister-in-law, Ruth Litzkow; nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Louise was preceded in death by her sisters, Elsie (Harry) Kwenski, Volly (Jim) Schaeffer and Anna Litzkow; and brother, Fred Litzkow.

Funeral services will be held in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 12:00 noon with Rev. Michael D. Zarling officiating. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon. In memory of Louise, memorials to Epiphany Lutheran Church have been suggested.

A heartfelt note of thanks to caregivers, Kendra, Joan & Kristen; to the wonderful staff of Rescare; and to Wheaton Franciscan Hospice ( especially Tamara & Julie) for the compassionate care and support extended in Louise’s time of need. May God bless all of you!
