RACINE – Mrs. Lucille E. Cherney, 90, passed away at Lakeshore at Sienna on January 30, 2024.

A lifelong resident of Racine, she was born on December 12, 1933, the daughter of the late Harold and Edna (nee Poole) Nelson.  She graduated from Racine Lutheran High School in 1952 and remained active with her high school classmate's social club.

Lucille married Robert E. Cherney on March 19, 1955.  He preceded her in death on July 13, 2003.

Lucille worked for many years as a checker and service desk assistant at Piggly Wiggly and Pick 'n Save.   She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving on the Trinity Troopers and Ladies Aid.  Lucille loved cooking and baking for her family and enjoyed her quiet time reading.

She is survived by her son and daughter, Michael Cherney, and Julie (Todd) Taleck; her grandchildren, Amy Santee, Jeff Santee, and Olivia Taleck; her sister-in-law, Sally Holterman; as well as dear nieces and nephews.   In addition to her parents and husband, Lucille was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen (Chris) Willis; her grandson, Ethan Taleck; and her sisters, Joyce (Gordon) Helvick, Dolores (Joseph, Jr.) Small, and Marilyn Clausen.

Family and friends are invited to meet in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 for a visitation from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.  A service celebrating and honoring Lucille's life will take place at 11:00 am with Rev. Stephen Jennings and Rev. David Gehne officiating.   Her interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.  Memorials are suggested to the family, who in turn will distribute to Lucille's favorite organizations.
