Racine – Luise (nee: Metzger) Gajan, age 79, passed away peacefully at Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints Medical Center on Saturday, November 21, 2015.

Luise was born in Pirmasens, Germany on October 31, 1936 to the late Otto and Elisabetha (nee: Salzmann) Metzger. Years later, Luise met a young United States Army soldier, Joseph N. Gajan, while he was stationed in Germany. Following his discharge from the service, Joe and Luise came to the United States and were united in marriage on July 30, 1960.

With her home and yard always in pristine condition, Luise was truly an accomplished gardener and decorator. She had the knack for always finding that special bargain – especially on QVC. Luise was a tireless worker and devoted volunteer who gave of her time to brighten the lives of others – especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Small in stature, yet large in character, Luise had an infectious personality and keen sense of humor….who treasured the times of being together with all her loved ones – including her canine companions.

Surviving are her sons, Joseph M. (Suzy Cruz) Gajan of Racine and Wolfgang (Monika) Metzger of Germany; grandchildren, Tonja & Sondra Metzger; and Sage Gajan; great-grandson, Niels; her only surviving sibling, Erika Muller; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Luise was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe Gajan in 2007; and by her brothers and sisters in Germany. A memorial service celebrating Luise's life will be held in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 6:30 pm with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Saturday from 4:30 – 6:30 pm. Private interment will take place in West Lawn Memorial Park.
