Racine – Marcella Ruth Runge, 97, passed away at St. Monica’s Senior Citizen’s Home on Sunday, September 8, 2013. She was born in Racine on June 1, 1916, daughter of the late Alfred and Dagmar (nee Nelson) Sorensen. On June 29, 1940 she was united in marriage to Walter Runge in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church. Mr. Runge preceded her in death on January 24, 2004.
Marcella was a homemaker who took great pride in providing a comfortable and safe home for her family. She liked to crochet; and enjoyed traveling to Europe on several occasions. Most of all she loved to be with her children and their families. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. Marcella was a faithful member of Emmaus Lutheran Church.
Marcella’s survivors include her daughters, Jane (Jeffrey) Uecker of Racine, and JoAnn (Thomas) Henrickson of Cross Plaines; three grandchildren, Susan (David) McManus of Germantown, Dori Henrickson of Everett, Washington, and Jon (Sara) Goldstein of Cross Plains; seven great-grandchildren, Allison and Shannon McManus, Giana, Georgia, and Grant Goldstein, Kaitlin and Jessica Hall; as well as other family and friends, especially Terri Nelson. She was also preceded by hers brothers, Milton and Wallace Sorensen.
In accordance to her wishes, private services were held in the funeral home on Friday, September 13, 2013, and she was entombed at West Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials to St. Monica’s Senior Citizen’s Home, or Emmaus Lutheran Church in honor of Marcella have been suggested.
Our family would like to thank Hospice Alliance, Pastor Mary Janz, the wonderful nurses and staff at St. Monica’s for their loving care and compassion for our mother; and to Sister Angelica Summer for her spiritual guidance and prayers.
