Obituary

Racine – Marion Rose (nee: Meyer) Stanton, age 91, was born into eternal life, while surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, July 24, 2017.

Marion was born in Sturtevant on July 19, 1926 to the late Theodore B. and Anastasia (nee: Vrana) Meyer. She was a graduate of William Horlick High School "Class of 1943" – at age 16.On May 17, 1952 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, she was united in marriage with Leonard Frank Stanton, who preceded her in death on November 29, 1982.

After high school, Marion went to work for Hamilton Beach for nearly 10 years until leaving to become a full-time mom. After her children were grown, Marion went back into the workforce at St. Mary's Medical Center for 25 years, retiring in May 1998.

With a profound Christian faith, Marion was a longtime member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church until its closure in 1997 when she became a member of St. Richard's Parish.

Marion became known as Matka, first by her grandchildren and then to those who became close friends and family over the years. Matka enjoyed gardening, growing beautiful flowers and vegetables, which she happily shared with her family and friends. She was an excellent cook and baker and enjoyed feeding everyone who came to her home. Christmas time was special when she would bake an extensive variety of cookies, along with hundreds of pierogies for our family to enjoy on Christmas Eve.

Marion was an avid Packers, Brewers, Bucks and Badgers fan (and had a soft spot for the Cubs too) She developed a knowledge of sports over the years that rivaled that of her sports fanatic sons and grandsons. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She always put them first and had special and different traditions with each generation.

Surviving are her children, Mike (Debbie) Stanton, Mark Stanton, Mary (Terry) Land, Nancy (Jeff) Kowalczuk, Matt Stanton, Lenny (Sandy) Stanton, Patty (David) Brekke; 18 grandchildren David and Melissa Stanton, Elliott and Luke Stanton, Alicia Edwards, Josh (Danerys) Edwards, Rachael (Nick) Contreras, Nick, Michael and Rebecca Kowalczuk, Erica (Tyler) Floyd, Amie (Scott) Day, Joe and Katy Stanton, Michelle (Dave) Costedio, Sam and Jordan Brekke, Rachel Stanton; Great grandchildren: Jacob, Adrian and Isabella Edwards, Jackson, Max and Alex Contreras, Nevin, Nolan, Niall and Audrey Floyd, Alexis and Zackary Day, Aubree and Mia Costedio and step-great-grandchildren, Mathew, Jenna and Ethan Land, Dreanna, Davin and Deagan Driggers

Other survivors include: her twin sister, Ruth Peterson, sisters-in-law Maria Von Schrader, Marie Meyer, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Proceeded in death by her husband, parents, Mother in law Helen Zukowski, brothers Wilfred, Raymond and George Meyer and brother in laws Walter Peterson, Frank, Stanley (Duke) and Eugene Stanton, Sister in laws Estelle, Dorothy and Ann Stanton, grandchildren Elizabeth Stanton and great grandchildren Eli and Avery Edwards.
