Mt. Pleasant – Marjorie E. (nee: Acklam) Rohner, age 95, passed away with family members at her side on Friday, December 18, 2015. Marge was born in the town of Mount Pleasant, Racine County on Easter Sunday, April 4, 1920 to Clarence and Emmeline (nee: Baker) Acklam. She grew up on a small family farm with her mother, father and brother, Tom. Marge attended Richard's grade school; graduated from St. Catherine's High School and Racine / Kenosha County (Normal) Teachers College; earned her undergraduate degree from Racine Dominican College; and, years later, earned her Master's from UW-Whitewater in the Gifted and Talented Program. On October 4, 1941 at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, she was united in marriage to Henry Rohner. Marge taught in numerous Racine County area schools, spanning a period of 50 years. She began her teaching career in 1939 at Tucker School, a one room school house, where she taught grades 1-8 and would often build a fire on Sunday evenings so her students could be warm on Monday morning. Marge was influential in establishing the first "Gifted and Talented Program" at Racine Unified. She retired from teaching as a 1st Grade teacher at West Ridge School in 1993. Marge was selected as Racine Unified District "Elementary Teacher of the Year" in 1989-90 and was inducted into the Southeastern Wisconsin Educators "Hall of Fame" on March 18, 1989.  Marge was presented with the Racine County Public Service Award in 1989 by the Racine County Sheriff's Department for her accomplishments in the field of education. Marge was a proud member of the "Rosie the Riveter" Society. She fastened rivets to the wings of B-29 Bombers at JI Case Company in the summer months (when school was not in session) during World War II. Surviving are her children, Bonnie Sorenson of Mt. Pleasant and John (Brenda Rivest) Rohner of Yorkville; grandchildren, Kari Kryszewski, Randy (Cindy) Sorenson, Rayme (Shay) Sorenson, Ryan "Rob" (Sonja Mata) Sorenson, Jason (Leah) Sorenson-Love, Kierstin (Dave) Anderson, Megan (Matt Spude) Ryczek, and Shannon (Tim Leonard) Rohner; 17 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Evelyn Rohner; nieces, nephews, other relatives, former students and friends. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:00 – 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the "Marjorie Acklam Rohner Educational Scholarship" has been suggested. A heartfelt note of thanks to Dr. Iftekhar Bader and his nurse, Marianne; Dr. Michael Mullane, Dr. Rodney Malinowski and Dr. Bruce Campbell; and to Wheaton Franciscan – All Saints 2nd floor cardiac unit for the compassionate care and support given to Marge in her time of need.
