
Racine- Mary Elizabeth Judon, affectionately known to many as “Cora Mae”, 76, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, January 6, 2012 following a courageous struggle with Alzheimer’s.
Mary was born in Atlanta, GA on December 23, 1935 to the late Coty and Maydell (nee: Easley) Kirksey. She received her formal education in Atlanta and from Gateway Technical College. On December 12, 1954 in Racine, Mary was united in marriage with the love of her life, John Adam Judon.
With a deep passion for helping others, Mary was employed as an aide at High Ridge Care Center and Southern Colony for her entire working career. She was a member of Second Missionary Baptist Church for over 45 years where she had served as secretary of the Mission and was one of the founding members / treasurer of the Rev. Mack C. Davis Club. Mary was a phenomenal cake baker, cook and seamstress; and also enjoyed knitting and quilting. Above all, she will be remembered for placing the needs of others before her own.
Surviving are her loving and devoted husband of 57 years, John Adam Judon; their adored daughter, Donna Judon; cherished granddaughters, Mary and Jennifer Judon; great-grandchildren, Darrius Quincy Judon – Carpenter, Malise Adonna Judon – Carpenter; and Frede Marie Judon; sisters and brothers, Johnnie Bell, Barbara McWhorter, Jenell Hall, John Kirksey, Sarah Jean Walker, Jerome Kirksey, Bernice Warner and Venery Morgan; sisters-in-law, Nellie Shaw and Florence Judon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her sister, Lendora McCellan; brothers-in-law, George Shaw, Bernie McWhorter, Robert Hall and Ezekial Judon; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Martin.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 11 am in Second Missionary Baptist Church, 1250 Lathrop Avenue, with Rev. J. Mark Freeman and Rev. Montreal Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be in Second Missionary Baptist Church on Thursday from 5-7 pm and on Friday from 10-11 am.
