Racine – Mary Elizabeth Thomas, 94, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Hospital on Monday, December 8, 2014. She was born in Jefferson, Wisconsin on July 14, 1920, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (nee: Waters) Mullenberg. On July 20, 1940 she was united in holy matrimony to Jack Thomas in St. Rita's Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on March 19, 1992. Mary was an employee of Western publishing for 30 years where she worked as a book binder.

Mary was a member of St Lucy's Catholic Church; and the Women of the Moose in Kenosha. She enjoyed playing euchre, dancing, and camping with her grandchildren. Christmas was her favorite holiday. She loved baking everyone's special cookies, pies, and her famous carrot cake and banana bread. She loved to be surrounded by her family making precious memories. Thank you, Mom. You are the best, and we'll love you forever!

She is survived by her children, Catherine "Kitty" (John) Szepesi, Lou Ann (Frank) Stritesky, Richard (Marcia) Thomas, Elizabeth (Marshall) Katt all of Racine, Robert (Charlotte) Thomas of Knoxville, Tennessee, Al (Pat) Thomas of Presque Isle, Patricia (Jim) Horvath of Iron Mountain, Michigan, Danny (Cathy) Thomas of Mascoutah, Illinois, and Ron (Kathie) Thomas of Franklin. She is further survived by 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and eagerly anticipating the 24th; sister-in-law Edna Sawwicki of Panama City, Florida; as well as other relatives and friends, She was also preceded in death by her son Jack Thomas Jr.; grandson Ryan Katt; daughter-in-law Judy Thomas; her brothers Bill (Mary), John (Virginia), and Darell Mullenberg; and her sisters Laverne Leonard, Delores (Louis) Klinkhammer, and Ann (Chet) Frye.

The funeral mass for Mary will be held at St. Lucy's Catholic Church on Friday December 12, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Caledonia. Visitation in the church will begin at 9:30 a.m.
