MISSION, TX.- NESHKORO, WI (formerly of Racine) – Mrs. Mavis D. Brook, 76, passed away unexpectedly at her residence on Saturday, March 29, 2014.

She was born in Mondovi, WI on March 2, 1938, the daughter of Bennie and Mary (nee: Norby) Solfest.  On May 7, 1955 she married Patrick George Brook.  After her retirement from nursing and from their upholstery shop, the Brooks moved and split their time living in Neshkoro, WI and Mission, TX.  Patrick recently preceded her in death on January 22, 2014.

Mavis is survived by her daughter, Janet Vanbrunt; son, Robert Brook both of Racine; her grandchildren, Tanya (Paul) Mejia, Joshua Brook, Justin Kowalski, Miranda (Alex) Miller; her great grandchildren, John, Jacob and Alyssa Mejia, McKenna Brook, Rhylee Brook, Breanna Kowalski; her sisters and brothers, Berdella Strommen of Rockford, IL, Vern (Patricia) Solfest of Racine, Gerald Solfest of Eau Claire, Irene (Orlin) Lerdahl of Neshkoro; her sister-in-law, Betty Solfest of Michigan, Barbara Burger of Tomahawk; her daughter-in-law, Cynthia Joas of Racine; as well as many nieces and nephews.  Mavis was also preceded in death by her grandson, Jeremiah Brook; sisters, Esther (Lloyd) Forthun, Lorraine (Harold) Mokry; brothers, Bernard (Joyce) Solfest, Orville (Beverly) Solfest, Wilmer Solfest and her sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sandra Solfest, Robert Strommen and Jerome Brook.

Family and friends are invited to meet in St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church (6400 Spring St) on Friday, April 4, 2014 for a visitation from 9:30 am – 11:00 a.m.  The celebration of her life and funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am with Rev. Terrance J. Huebner officiating.  A private interment will take place in West Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
