Racine – Mollie F. Jones, age 79; loving mother, grandmother and devoted civic leader; passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, February 6, 2025 at Ascension SE Wisconsin Hospital in Franklin.
One of eight children, Mollie was born in Enterprise, MS on October 5, 1945 to the late Willie and Gladys (nee: Jordan) Chambliss. She was a graduate of Southside High School in Heidelberg, MS. Mollie went on to graduate from Harris Junior College in Meridian, MS. Following that, Mollie came to Racine to visit her sister Bernice and made Racine home. Mollie worked for JI Case (CNH) Company for 33 years before retiring. Mollie worked for The B Store (Boston Store) until retiring to become a full-time Granny to Sebastian. When the Alder seat was vacated for district 2, Mollie was voted in and her journey of service continued. She was a serving Alderwoman at the time of death and chaired and assisted on various committees during her tenure.
A woman of great faith, Mollie was a longtime, faithful member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. She served on the Usher Board. Outside of helping others, she enjoyed gardening, family gatherings, attending events with her Besties and attending events in the city of Racine.
Surviving are her son, Terrence W. Jones of Racine; daughter, Yvette (William) Hosey of Brownsburg, IN; adored grandchildren, Ashlin, Tre, Donovan and Sebastian; great grandchildren Harmoni and Ace; brother, Howard (Willie) Chambliss; sisters, Lottie McCarty and Mittie Chambliss; sister-in-law, Martha Chambliss; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many, many friends – too numerous to mention all by name.
In addition to her parents, Mollie was preceded in death by her former husband, Samuel R. Jones; brothers, Albert (Dorothy Mae) Chambliss and Willie Floyd Chambliss; sisters, Bernice Moore and Bertha Jones; and brother-in-law, Rev. Frank McCarty.
Homegoing services will be celebrated on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 11:00 am in St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1123 Center Street, with Bishop Lawrence L. Kirby officiating. Visitation will be in Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Friday, February 15 th , from 4:00 – 6:00 pm and in St. Paul Baptist Church on Saturday from 10:00 – 10:45 am. Interment will take place in Graceland Cemetery.
