Racine, WI – Morris Dean Sims Sr. went home to his Heavenly Father on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at his place of residence, at the age of 83. Morris was born on June 16, 1937 to William and Mary Ann (nee: Hadley) Sims Sr. in Centralia, Illinois. Morris graduated from Washington Park High School with the Class of 1956. Immediately following graduation Morris enlisted in The United States Marine Corps on July 23, 1956 and was honorably discharged July 22, 1958.

On August 10, 1957 he was united in marriage to his longtime sweetheart Delores (nee: Westmoreland) Sims and they celebrated their 63 ^rd wedding anniversary on August 10, 2020. Morris began working at American Motors in September of 1958 and retired after 43 years of service as a machinist at Chrysler in July 1, 2001. Morris had an impeccable work record. During his 43 years of working for American Motors/Chrysler, he only missed 7 days of work. He loved his job very much. He worked several part-time jobs to ensure his wife never had to work. His part-time jobs consisted of working for Modine Manufacturing, The Dr. John Bryant Center and the City of Parks and Recreation. Morris had a tremendous passion for playing basketball. He played in several leagues with his oldest brother William Sims Jr. He loved basketball so much that he coached a Small Frye basketball team and went on to referee high school basketball games. On March 28, 2002, he dedicated his life to Christ and was baptized at Midtown Church of Christ where we remained a devoted member until his passing. Morris served on the finance committee for many years with his last day of service being October 19, 2020. Morris enjoyed attending church, going to Bible Study, barbecuing, listening to music, playing the lottery and scratch offs, but most importantly, he loved the Chicago Bulls.

Morris Dean Sims Sr. leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Delores (nee: Westmoreland); sons Morris (Theresa) Sims Jr., Brian (fiancé Delesia) Sims; daughters Deborah (Alonzo) Sims-Brown and Carolyn (Rodney) Sims-Settersten; his Brother Dr. Eugene (Yvonne) Sims; grandchildren Jamie (Carla) Sims-Prewitt, Jason (Akpomo) Sims-Prewitt, Antonia Torres, Ashley Williams, Cherise First, Kimberly Basma and Patrick (Kayla) Sims; great-grandchildren Isaiah, Josiah, Anayah, and Dejah Sims-Prewitt, Zion Sims-Prewitt, Breanna Williams, Aaron Basma, and Phiara Sims; sisters-in-law Sandra Love and Phyllis Lott; brothers-in-law Joseph (Arbutus) Westmoreland, Robert (Rosalinda) Westmoreland, Lamont (Martina) Westmoreland, Thomas (Rhonda) Westmoreland; special niece and nephew Theresa and Charlie Tomlin; special friends Charlie (Ruby) Wray, Euwanna (Jean) Boutwell, the entire Midtown Church of Christ Family, Willie (Thelma) Byles, Charles Benson and Abraham Alvarez as well as many other relatives and friends.

Morris was preceded in death by his parents William Sims Sr. and Mary Ann Blythe; brothers William (Wilma) Sims Jr. and Ronnie Sims; sister Sissy Sims; nephews Jimmy, Carnell and William Sims III; mother and father in-law Joseph and Frances Westmoreland; brother and sister-in-law Gene and Verneda (nee: Westmoreland) Housmann; brother-in-law Herbert Westmoreland and his infant granddaughter Cherolynn Marie First.

A Celebration of His Life will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2020 in the chapel of Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home, 4600 County Line Rd., Racine, WI., 12:00pm. Visitation will be held in the chapel from 10:00am until the time of service.

In accordance with Racine County mandate, only 50 people will be allowed to enter the building at a time during the visitation, you may be required to wait outside until others leave the building and only 50 designated people will be allowed to remain in the building for Mr. Sim's funeral service.   The State of Wisconsin mandates for the safety and security of all guests, that those in attendance are required to wear a face covering and observe social distancing requirements.  We thank everyone for their understanding and cooperation during this difficult time.

Service Details

A Celebration of His Life will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2020 in the chapel of Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home, 4600 County Line Rd., Racine, WI., 12:00pm. Visitation will be held in the chapel from 10:00am until the time of service.  Interment will take place in the Veterans Section of Graceland Cemetery.
