Emma Jean Turner, 88, received the promise of eternal life on Wednesday, March 18, 2020. She was born in New Albany, MS, on November 11, 1931, daughter of the late El and Ellen (Nee: Gray) Barker.
Emma was united in marriage to the love of her life, Terrel Turner, on August 3, 1947. The two relocated from MS to Racine, WI in 1949. Terrel preceded her in death on January 21, 1985.
She was a member of St. Paul MBC for 50+ years where served on the Mother's Board, Senior Mission and she regularly attended Sunday School. She was a housekeeper for several healthcare institutions but retired in 1996 from Lincoln Village Convalescent Center. She was grateful to be able to still live in her apartment, taking care of her daily tasks including preparing her own meals.
Emma leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Dorothy (Clarence) Green, Rose Turner-Hooker; grandchildren, Gwen (Larry) Latiker, Stephanie Woods , David (Christonya) Green, Melissa Green, Terrence (Birgit) Hooker, Latisha Hooker; great-grandchildren, Steven, Brandon, Mariah, Brittany, Jordan, Jada, Amaria, Amir, Terrell Niara; great-great-grandchildren, Jamier, Jrue, Miah, Charli, Jalia, Sarai, Christopher Jr; special nephew, Wilbur Pickens (Memphis, TN); sister-in-law, Grace Turner; brothers-in-law, William Turner, Joseph (Jennifer) Ticer; special friends, Edna Fletcher (45+ years), Mother Dora Cleveland, Josephine Wilson (cousin), Virginia Arthur (cousin), Marty Karls; other relatives and dear friends too numerous to mention.
In addition to her husband, Emma is preceded in death by her infant daughter, Linda Sue Turner; son-in-law, Archie T. Hooker; brothers, Tommie Lee Fleming, A.V. Barker; brothers-in-law, Henry, George, Othello, Vivian, Ivora (Mary), James Turner; sisters-in-law, Lura Kirk, and Lucille Turner.
A celebration of Emma's life and homegoing will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2020, 11:00am, by live stream only, with Bishop Lawrence L. Kirby I officiating. Viewing will be available by stream from 10:00am until the time of the service. The stream link is https://youtu.be/PDuF2kAgE4Y . Our family would like to thank you all for your kind acts during this most difficult time. Thank you all for your patience as we have faced challenges due to the current health crisis. God has shown himself faithful through all of this. Special thanks to Chris Daniel (at his home in Arizona) who worked non-stop to create the music playlist for the viewing time and for coordinating and finalizing the order of service. He also graciously agreed to sing a tribute to Mom during the service – His Eye Is on the Sparrow.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2020, 11:00am. The service will only be available via live stream. Viewing will be available via the live stream starting at 10:00am.
