Sturtevant – Otis Townsend, formerly of Racine, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at the age of 83. He was born in Winona, Mississippi on February 5, 1933 to Isom and Mattie Townsend. Mr. Townsend served honorably in the US Army from 1953-1955. On October 26, 1955 he was united in matrimony to Corinza White. Corinza preceded him in death on November 7, 2013.

Mr. Townsend lived most of his life in Missouri until relocating to Racine in 1982 where he worked at Goodwill for many years and also SC Johnson Wax. He liked to socialize with his friends and neighbors on Mead Street; enjoyed Pepsi and Swiss Cake Rolls; watching old westerns and everything else on MeTV. Above all though, it was his children that gave him the most joy, and he loved to brag about them.

Otis is survived by his children: Otis (Sandy) Townsend II of Dayton, Ohio, Mildred (Kenneth) Price, Joanne Townsend, and Garry (Leslie) Townsend all of Racine, and Alphanzo (Yamile) Townsend of Missouri City, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 sister and 6 brothers: Yvonne (James) Tucker of New Madrid, Missouri; Cubie Lee Townsend of Charleston, Missouri, Lester (Katie) Townsend of Aurora, Illinois, Roosevelt (Lois) Townsend, Roy Townsend, and Bobby (Versa) Townsend all of Sikeston, Missouri, and W.L. Townsend of Elgin, Illinois; as well as many other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his son Otis Townsend III; sister Mary Singleton; brothers Tom Townsend and W.B. Townsend.

Homegoing services will be held at New Omega Baptist Church (5731 Northwestern Avenue) at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 with Rev. Fred L. Richmond presiding. Interment will follow at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Visitation in the church will begin at 10:00 a.m.

Testimonials

October 22, 2015

Mike,
Words cannot adequately convey our gratitude for all you did to honor our family member and friend, Mert Fleury. Like with her husband Ray, years ago, you and your staff went above and beyond to help us through this difficult time and to give Mert a wonderful celebration of her life. Every detail was considered, all of our requests were given unfailing attention, and the little extras took our breath away. Every sad feeling and every tear was matched two-fold with feelings of gratitude and comfort because of what you did. We will be forever grateful!
The Fleury Family

David Fleury
