Racine, WI – Peter A. Markowski of Caledonia, WI was born to eternal life at the age of 63. On April 14, 2021, a tragic car accident took his life far too soon. He was the cherished husband of Mary Markowski for 43 years. The loving father of Jonathan (Gloria) and Nicole (Keith). Proud grandpa of Jenna, Morgan, Lexi, and Jack. Further survived by his father Sylvester (Judy), brother Jim (Darlene), sister Deborah, brothers-in-law Bill (Gail) and Joe (Jody), sister-in law Kathy (Jerry), cousins Steve & Robin, godson Russell, best friend Red, other loved relatives, dearly loved friends and co-workers. He was preceded in death by his mother Margaret Markowski and beloved friend Mary Otterson.

Pete graduated from South Milwaukee High School in 1975. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Fort Benning, Georgia. During his time in the service, he was a wheel tractor operator and did small arms repair. Upon returning home, he was hired at Major Grading (Zignego Company) by his friend Red where Pete found his love for road construction and driving truck. Pete always spoke highly of his work, family and the comradery that they all shared on the jobsite. On April 1st, 2021, Pete retired after driving lowboy and dump truck for Zignego Company for 40 years.

Pete was a family man, hardworking, dedicated, and always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He took pride in his work and always made sure that things were done the right way or ‘built to last’. His love for his family ran deep and he was always the go-to guy. Mary and Pete enjoyed vacations to Hawaii where Pete had a love for the food, people, atmosphere, and peace & quiet.

We will miss his smile, witty sense of humor, contagious laugh, and words of wisdom in our lives. He was a beautiful and irreplaceable soul that will be missed beyond what words can express.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 3:00PM on Sunday, April 25, 2021 in the chapel of Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home in Racine, WI. Funeral service will begin at 3:00PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the American Diabetes Association or Children’s Hospital.

Peter came into my life almost 50 years ago when he started dating my sister Mary. He was a comical guy who loved to tease me. He was a devoted husband to Mary along with being a dedicated father to Jon and Nicky. His life was changed completely with the birth of grandchildren. Jenna, Morgan, Lexi and Jack mellowed Peter and his true personality came out. He was loving and generous with all his grandkids and would have done anything for them. Peter will be missed greatly and will always remain in my heart . I will be forever grateful to him for loving my sister.

Testimonials

December 18, 2024

Words cannot even begin to express the tremendous gratitude our family has for a team like the one at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home & Crematory. Thank you for the gentle lovely care over our mother Delia (Rosa) Balderas. Never having had a direct experience with a funeral home to this extent we didn’t know what to expect. We didn’t have a clue that they would step right in and have the most comforting team surrounding us that thought of ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING for anyone in our position. It was very evident from the first discussion on the phone that they were already well prepared to handle every little detail for us that we weren’t even aware would be required. Mark and his team truly eased so much of the unknown worries right out of our path, and left room for us to just focus on the small personal details we wanted for our mom. It was nice to know that all cost involved was in black and white on their site as well as on paper at our first meeting. Leaving no room for question or doubt what so ever with any fee involved. It was truly a blessing to have everything written out so well and simplified with various price range options in a time that we needed crystal clear direction. Its been beautiful to see that their care and service didn’t stop after our mom’s service came to an end. They continue to be in communication with immediate responses as questions arise along the way. God bless Mark, and the entire compassionate team, to be around to guide many many more for generations to come through life’s most difficult times. You are all truly amazing.

Hilda Balderas
