The family of Rae Ellen Madar is sad to announce the passing of their beloved mother, grandma, cousin, and friend. Rae passed away peacefully on Friday, May 6, 2022, in Verona, WI. She was determined to continue her recent fight with lung cancer after surviving breast cancer.
Rae was born February 14, 1933, in Kenosha to Walter and Margaret (Morrison) Reed and was married on June 30, 1956, to her late husband, John Donald Madar Jr. They made Madison their home in 1965. She is survived by her two daughters, Marianne (Jim Jensen) Madar and Nancie (Byron) Wright and four grandchildren, Andrew (Erika Mabrey) Jensen, Jessica (Tony) Fioretti, John (Kate) Jensen and Rebecca Jensen. She adored her two great-grandsons, Arthur Jensen and Salvatore Fioretti, and was looking forward to welcoming her newest great-granddaughter in May. She remained close to her cousins who were all raised in Kenosha.
Rae was active in the Faircrest neighborhood, participated as a member of the Metropolitan Women’s Club and went on travels and excursions with her late husband and friends. She loved collecting pictures and memories of her grandchildren, and, on weekends when she wasn’t cheering on her Chicago Bears, she could be found making Old Fashions and playing bridge and dominoes with her friends. She loved her title as official “sugar cookie cutter” while baking Christmas cookies – it was the kick off to her family’s holiday season.

Mary and Joe Varese says
Marianne and Nancie—I was saddened to hear the news of your Mom’s passing. She and your Dad were wonderful neighbors after Joe and I moved to Madison from Baltimore. Your Mom continued to be a friend and neighbor for all the years she remained on Inner Drive.
Joe and I hope the June remembrance of your Moms long lived life is at a date in June that we will be able to attend.
Looking forward to seeing all the kids grown up and meeting the great grands.
In sorrow
Mary Varese

Marianne and Nancie, I am so very sorry for your loss. When I was young your Mom was always very special to me. She was my Godmother and my only first cousin. I know she raised wonderful daughters and was always very proud of her grandchildren. I will be remembering all of you in my prayers.
