Pleasant Prairie – Richard Elmer Lawrence, age 82, passed away at Froedtert South-Kenosha Medical Center on Sunday, January 10, 2021.

Dick was born in Davenport, Iowa on June 3, 1938 to the late Elmer and Louise Mary (nee: Rohrig) Lawrence. He was a graduate of Lane Tech High School. Dick faithfully served our country with the United States Coast Guard. With a great love for water & marine life, Dick was an accomplished boat captain, yacht surveyor & marine authority, having owned & operated Lawrence Marine Service Inc, LLC for many years. He was often called upon to captain yachts to and from marinas all over the nation, including the notorious "Odyssey" dinner boat from Southern Florida to its home port of Navy Pier in Chicago. Capt. Dick also mastered the famous Harry W Adams tall ship from the East Coast to the Caribbean. Dick was a lifetime member of Kenosha Yacht Club and had also served as Harbor Master of Southport Marina, Trident & Prairie Cove Marinas for many years. He was extremely proud to have been active with "Camp One Step" children's oncology annual boat day, which was always the highlight of Dick's summer. He also looked forward to frequent trips to beautiful sunny Florida, one of his favorite places to be…and to his many favorite windjammer tall ship Caribbean vacations. Above all, Dick was a doting father & grandfather who loved spending time with his children & grandchildren. He will be tremendously missed by all who knew him. Noted by friends as "a good man & a true original."

Surviving are his children, Jeffrey Lawrence, Elizabeth Strack, Tabitha (Bob) Baldwin and Jackie (Perry) Unger; grandchildren, Samuel Lawrence, Jeffrey Orfritz, Kayla Schubbe and Kendyl Strack; great-granddaughter, Kayden Schubbe; fiancé, Emily Lucille Brooks; sister, Kaye Kreher; best-friend, Jim Hanson; nephews, other relatives, boating family & friends – too numerous to mention all by name. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Don Kreher.

Services celebrating Dick's wonderful life will be celebrated on Saturday, January 30, 2021 in Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home at 12:00 noon. Military honors will follow. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon. Private interment will take place at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Memorials to "Camp One Step" to continue brightening the days of children fighting cancer through boating.
