The Life of Robert Lee Chatman

" Bob  –  Tater  –  Bullet  –  Bobby  – Daddy  –  PaPa  "

Robert Lee Chatman was the seventh of twelve children born to James and Frances Chatman on July 20, 1945 in Natchez, Mississippi.   He accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and united with the Grove AME Church.

Robert was educated in the Natchez, Mississippi public school system graduating from Sadie V. Thompson High School.   After high school, he entered the Army and did a tour of duty in Vietnam.  Upon being honorably discharged from the Army, he moved to Chicago, Illinois where he united with Greater Open Door Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. B. T. Little.  He worked at Crane and Company as a Tool and Die Operator until it closed. He also worked par-time at Sears.  After Crane closed, he worked as a Cable Installer.

Robert was married in Chicago and he and his first wife, Gloria, had three daughters.

In 1993, Robert moved his family to Kenosha, Wisconsin and united with Coleman Chapel AME Church.  He continued as a Cable Installer until he got a position as a Correctional Officer in the County Correctional Facility.  He worked there until his retirement.

Robert found love a second time and united in matrimony with Sharon Perkins.  To this union one son was born.  Sharon brought much joy and adventure to his life.

Robert was an excellent handy man and builder, helping many people and was affectionately called "Superman". He enjoyed cooking, fishing, and family gatherings; especially returning home to Natchez for the annual Chatman Family Reunion. Robert was also a bowler extraordinaire, winning multiple awards and bowling many perfect "300" games.

Cherishing his memories are his devoted wife, Sharon;  his children Robin  Cooper, Lakeisha (Louis)  Hurd, Felecia Chatman, Robert James Chatman, Marissa McCoy, Willie McCoy, all of Kenosha;  Laquiste Batiste of Natchez, Ms.;  Philip Oji of Arlington, Tx.;  Siblings: Frank Chatman, Sr., Lawrence (Betsy) Chatman, Doretha Chatman, Roosevelt (JoAnn)  Chatman, Rosetta (Kelvin) Myles of Natchez, Ms., Nathaniel (Diane) Chatman of St. Louis, Mo., Charles (Mildred) Chatman, Marie Chatman, Frances L.
