Roger Stevens

vet
Oct 16, 1937 – Dec 31, 2013

Racine – Roger Stevens, 76, entered into eternal life and was reunited with his beloved wife, Betty, on Tuesday, December 31st, 2013. He was born in Racine on October 16, 1937, son of the late Frank and Margaret “Marge” (nee: Hauch) Stevens. Roger proudly served in the US Marine Corps from 1956 – 1959.

Roger remained in New Orleans, Louisiana following his discharge, and on August 18, 1962 he was married to Elizabeth Claire “Betty” McGarry.  Eventually, he and Betty moved to Roswell, Georgia where they raised their family. They moved to Racine in 1984. Roger’s entrepreneurial ways led to his owning a restaurant in Roswell, and Custom Express, a trucking company in Milwaukee.

Roger was a devoted family man whose wife, children, and grandchildren meant everything to him.  He was also a loving uncle and father-figure to his niece and nephews. Roger enjoyed boating and fishing, and loved to cheer on the Green Bay Packers.

Roger is survived by his daughters Meg (Shane) Ladner of Canton, Georgia and Courtney Chiappetta of Racine; son Bill (Cyndi) Stevens of Salem; grandchildren Elizabeth, Molly, and William Chiappetta, Victoria, and Paige Stevens; sister Leslie Nelson; brother Andrew Stevens; nephews and nieces Chris Stevens of Racine, Erin Sumrall of The Woodlands, Texas, Shannon Burke of Woodstock, Georgia, Sean Burke of Clearwater Beach, Florida, and Stephen Nadalin of Austin, Texas; and other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Raymond, Robert, and Paul Stevens.

Memorial services for Roger will be held at St. Richard’s Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2014. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Private committal services will take place at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Memorials to St. Richard’s Church have been suggested.

The Stevens family thanks the staff at Davita Wheaton East for their comforting care and the assistance provided to their father during his dialysis treatments.

Testimonials

October 22, 2015

We want to thank Mike for the kindness and special attention he gave us for our mother. Marcella Conley. He came in the middle of the night himself to pick her up and take her to the funeral home. For the things that had to be taken care of, he told us not to worry; that it would be taken care of by him. Thank you also Mike for singing at her funeral, especially her favorite song, Amazing Grace. Thank you and all of your staff at Draeger-Langendorf.
