Obituary

MOUNT PLEASANT – Ronald G. Long, 82, passed away peacefully at Ascension All Saints on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Racine on November 1, 1938, the son of the late Lester and Rose (nee Hoffman) Long.  He attended Racine Lutheran High School where he participated in many sports and excelled at basketball. He graduated in 1956 as Outstanding Athlete of the Year.

After high school, he especially enjoyed playing city league basketball for Mennen Insurance and softball for Garbo Motors.  In addition to playing, he also umpired softball for many years with his good friend, Dean Dowhower.  Ron was an avid hockey fan cheering for the Badgers, Admirals and Blackhawks.  He also enjoyed fishing, especially at his parent's retirement home in Mountain, WI and cycling on bike trails all around the State of Wisconsin.

Ron was a member of the 20-Year Club and retired from SC Johnson after 40+ years of service.  He was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Valerie (Kevin) Brau of Fremont, WI; his son, Dan (Krista) Long of Racine; his grandchildren, Ashley (Jason) Cermak of Minneapolis, MN, Brittany (Jackson) Peterson of Salt Lake City, UT, Andrew (Liz) Long of Palo Alto, CA, and Adam (Laurin) Long of Racine; his great grandchildren, Winsley and Ellis Cermak, Landyn and Dillon Long; his sister, Lois Chadek of Appleton; his loving companion, Laura Tapper of Mount Pleasant; her children, Melissa (Jason) Meachum of Greenfield, Michelle (Justin) Freriks of Brookfield and Angela (Richard) Tapper of Henderson, NC ; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  Ron was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Dorothy (nee Burns) Long and brother-in-law, Edward Chadek.

Due to Covid19, a PRIVATE interment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park.  A public memorial service will be held at a later date.  Memorials in Ron's name have been suggested to Racine Lutheran High School.
