Russell Edwin Asala, 86, passed away at his home on March 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of creativity and devotion that will be cherished for generations. He was born November 21, 1939, son of the late Edwin and Elsie (née Soby) Asala. Russell grew up with a deep appreciation for learning, craftsmanship, and the beauty of the world around him-values that shaped every chapter of his life.

Russell graduated from Lane Tech High School in Illinois before earning his bachelor's degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, an accomplishment he carried with quiet pride. His professional life reflected his strong work ethic and natural ability to connect with others. He spent nearly twenty years in sales at SC Johnson & Co., where he was respected for his integrity and dedication. In 1983, he became a partner at Creative Concepts in Racine, bringing his artistic eye and entrepreneurial spirit to a business that allowed him to express his creativity in new ways.

On August 17, 1985, Russell married Janet Servi, the love of his life and his favorite companion for games, gardening, and everyday joys. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and the kind of love that deepens with time.

Russell was an artist in every sense of the word. His paintings – vibrant, thoughtful, and deeply personal-hang proudly in his home and in the homes of his family, each one a reflection of his talent and the way he saw the world. His creativity extended beyond the canvas. He tended lovingly to his perennial garden, a sanctuary alive with butterflies and centered around a peaceful pond he adored. He was also a gifted cook, known especially for his homemade tomato soup and his unmatched skills at the grill-earning him the affectionate title of "world's greatest grill master."

He loved games and the friendly competition they brought. Whether playing cribbage or gin with Jan, challenging family to Scrabble, or watching Jeopardy! and confidently answering along, Russell's sharp mind and playful spirit were always on display.

Above all, Russell was a family man. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Jan Asala; his children, Lisa (Tom) Korabik, Kristen Vasilarakos, Angie (Scott) Olsen, Doug (Kathy) Asala, Tracey Asala, Dana (Joel) LeAir, and Jason (Amy) Asala; and his grandchildren, Sam, Nate, Evan (Mareeka), Greg, Courtney (Daniel), Caitlin (Michael), Daniel, Breanna, Sydnee (Ryan), Luisa, Max, Cameron, Tyler, Regan, Miranda (Eli), Ryan, Sam, Emma, and Jack; great-grandchildren, Tytan, Nash, Nola, Everlee, Ellabea, Quinn, Owen, Aaron, Ethan, Emerie, Elle, Roman, Lillian, Lacianna, Logan, Levin, and Baby Hawes (on the way). He is also survived by his brother‑in‑law, Bob Sokel, and sister‑in‑law, Donna Asala.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ronald Asala; his sister, Marsha Sokel; and his grandson, Lucas Vasilarakos. Their memories are now reunited with his.

A memorial service celebrating Russell's life will be held on Thursday, March 12, at 11:00 a.m. at Draeger‑Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, 4600 County Line Road, Mount Pleasant, WI. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Russell's life was a beautiful blend of creativity, intellect, humor, and heart. His presence made the world brighter, and his memory will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him.
