Ruth Mary Field passed away peacefully at home on February 10, 2026, at the age of 96.
Ruth was born in Racine, WI, on October 24, 1929. She was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Mueller) Funk. Ruth lived in Racine her entire life. She attended Holy Name Grade School and graduated from St. Catherine’s High School in 1947. Ruth married the love of her life, Donald, on October 25, 1958, at Holy Name Catholic Church. They shared 36 wonderful years of marriage before he preceded her in death on May 21, 1994. Later, she became a member of St. Peter’s Church.
As a child, Ruth helped on the family farm and later worked on nearby farms. She was employed by several businesses, including Allover, Inc., before dedicating herself to being a homemaker while raising her children. Later in life, she attended Gateway Technical College alongside her sister, Rita, earning a degree in nursing. She went on to work at Upjohn’s Health Care.
In retirement, Ruth continued to enjoy gardening and had an amazing green thumb—everything she planted thrived. She also enjoyed baking and many other activities. Having built their home on her family’s farmland, she always loved watching the wildlife in her yard. Ruth always tried to stay active by walking, spending time with family and friends, and attending family reunions and picnics. Being the kind person she was, Ruth always put others before herself.
Ruth is survived by her children: Donna (Alec) Hrynyshyn, Mark Field, John Field, and Brian Field; grandchildren: Chris (Shallise), David, and Jeff Hrynyshyn; Krystle (Jake) Mosley, Laura Lopez, Morgan Leopard, and Joseph DeJesus; and great-grandchildren: Ella, Lila, and Memphis Mosley; Ava Lopez, Andrew John Langenfeld III, Mya, Melia Bishop, and James. She is also survived by her brother, Lawrence Funk, and sister-in-law, Leone Funk. Ruth is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Donald, and her daughter, Barbara Ann Field, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Joseph (June) Funk, Bill (Mary) Funk, Bob (Joanne) Funk, Marie (Orland) Guard, Theresa (Jim) Celeste, Rose (Pete) Trecroci, Rita (Wilfred) Barth, Raymond Funk, and her sister-in-law, Donna Funk.
Special thanks to the doctors and staff at Aurora Health Care – Racine; to Ruth’s last living brother, Lawrence Funk, for all the love he gave his sister; to the Helen and Mike Bodven family; and to Ruth’s special niece and nephew, Maryann (Rick) Czarnowski and Jim Celeste.
