Racine – Shirley Ann (Thomas) Scott entered into the presence of her Lord on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, surrounded by family.  Shirley was born March 24, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of the late Joseph and Alma Lee (Henderson) Thomas.  She grew up in Bessemer, Alabama and returned to Chicago after marrying William C. Scott Sr. on July 27, 1970.  Looking for more opportunities for their family, Shirley and Will made their home in Racine, Wisconsin in 1978.  Shirley worked various jobs over the years, a telephone operator at Wisconsin Bell and AT&T, retiring from Ascension after working in the lab, cash management, and finally hospital cashier.

Shirley accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior in 1982, her life and the lives of her family were forever changed.  She was a devoted follower and a gifted teacher who shared her calling through prison ministry, bible study groups, Sunday School, and home study groups.  Shirley’s solid foundation in Christ was an example that drew family and friends to faith.

Shirley had a generous spirit that will be felt for generations to come.  She believed in putting her faith into action.  She and Will opened their home and were foster parents for years to many children who, for years afterwards greeted her as Mother Shirley!  More than anything, she loved spending time with family.  She relished every opportunity to gather with her children, family, and friends and tried not to miss a family reunion, whether close or requiring a road trip.  In recent years she and her siblings vacationed together each summer.

She will be dearly missed by her husband of fifty-four years, Will; her children, Regina (Ted) Scott Brooks, William C. (Tonia) Scott Jr., Reginald T. (Laura) Scott, Rachel A. Scott, Deborah L. Scott, Michael E. (Angela) Scott, Christa V. Scott, Jessica J. Scott, Gabrielle A. Scott, and Timothy L. Scott; her grandchildren, BriAnna A. Brooks, Catherine S.-A. Brooks, Anthony J.  Johnson, Alisha M. Trinidad, Andrew L. Murriel, William C. Scott III, DeVontre T. Scott, Caleb B. Scott, Regina T. Scott, Liliana R. Scott, Luther Scott, Marvelle J. Wainwright, Romello M. Collins, Jayden N. Payne, Asher L. Payne, and several others; her 11 great grandchildren; her siblings, Eugene Henderson, Fannie Mae (Frank) Oliver, Belinda (Charlie) Robinson, Rev. Nathaniel (Connie) Austin, Beverly Austin, Juanita Austin, Patricia (Roosevelt) Brown, Natalie Jackson Taylor; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Shirley was proceeded in death by her parents and in-laws, Andrew & Victoria Scott; daughter, Stacy F. Scott; sister, Wilma D. Garth; sister-in-law, Edna H. Henderson; brothers-in-law, Andrew, Sterling, Ronald Scott, Donald Scott, Erskine Taylor, Jr.; and grandchildren, Reginald T. Scott Jr., Dayja, Delija & Michael Scott.

The celebration of Shirley’s life will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, 11:00am, at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, 4600 County Line Road. Visitation will be from 10:00am until the time of the service.  Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery. The service will be live streamed.  The stream key is in the service information above

The Scott family wishes to thank Dr. Nawaz and the providers at Aurora Advanced Healthcare Oncology (Mount Pleasant) for their care and compassion.  Her Word of Life Church family for all their help and prayers.  And to everyone that helped during this difficult time, so close after Stacy’s passing.  To honor Shirley’s compassionate care of foster children in Racine County, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Royal Family Kids (a summer camp for foster children in Racine County) http://racine.churchcenter.com/

Testimonials

May 24, 2018

Our family wants to thank Mike and the staff of Draeger-Langendorf for their compassion and caring in the death of our mother. They attended to every detail with such professionalism and made this difficult time so much easier by unburdening us of all that needs to be done with the arrangements. We all felt that there was nothing more they could have been done. It was perfect. We can now go forward with the memories that we hold in our hearts of mom and know that we provided the best possible service by choosing Draeger-Langendorf.
