Memorial Suggestions

In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances to Racine County Foster Care, 1717 Taylor Avenue, Racine, WI, 53403, would  be appreciated by the family.

Shirley J. Woodward, age 89, of Racine, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2022.

Shirley was born in Racine on November 9, 1932, a daughter of the late Niels Christian and Anna (nee: Qualey) Nielsen.

She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Robert E. Woodward on November 19, 1949, at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Racine.  They recently celebrated their 72nd year of marriage.

Shirley was a person with love for family, tremendous patience, quick whit, and sense of humor.  Along with her husband, Bob, they were foster parents for Racine County for over twenty years.  She was an avid sewer in her home, for her church, and for the Racine Theater Guild, where she not only sewed but did some acting as well.  She was involved with a large project sending clothes and food supplies to Vietnam.

She enjoyed square dancing, clogging, gardening, camping, travel, doll collecting, animals, and spending time with family.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Robert; her five children, Alice (Martin) Olson, Timothy D. (Georgina) Woodward, Donna L. (Keith) Buska, David A. (Karen) Woodward, and Michael (Mandy) Woodward;  16 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren.

Along with her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by a son, Steven R. Woodward, and her brothers and sisters, Martha Engel, Jeanette Hogan, Violet Marhefke, Hazel Nielsen, Sarah Glass, Anna Fredericks, Norma Kremen, Orville Cleven, and Raymond Nielsen.

Shirley’s family would like to thank Centralwell Home Health (Kindred Hospice), with a special thanks to case manager and nurse, Corina for the love and care shown to their mother.

Testimonials

Comfort, blessed and confident

I can’t say enough good things about Michael and his staff. They go above and beyond what is required of a funeral home. He has always met my desires and goes beyond what I ask. He always makes it a little more special. He has blessed me and my family many times and comforted us when we are aching because of our loss. I am always confident that he will do his very best, and he always has.
Thank you Michael and staff. May you all have a Blessed Christmas season and New Year
