Rev. Stephen 'Steve' Charles Hintz, age 56, of Racine, WI went home to Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at United Hospital System-Kenosha Medical Center Campus. He collapsed from a massive heart attack while running with his cross-country team on Monday, September 18, 2006 and never regained consciousness. Born April 1, 1950 in Neenah, WI, beloved son of (the late) Gerhard and Eunice (Hageman) Hintz , he became a child of God through baptism on April 30, 1950. He graduated from Fox Valley Lutheran High School, Appleton in 1968. He went on to attend Northwestern College, Watertown, WI and continued pastoral study at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Mequon, WI. As a vicar in Lake Mills, WI, he met his wife Kathryn (nee: Wollenburg) and they were married August 1, 1976. After various teaching duties at Lakeside Lutheran High School, Lake Mills, and (Doctor) Martin Luther College, New Ulm, Minnesota, he received a call as an instructor at Shoreland Lutheran High School in Somers, Wisconsin. While there he completed his ministerial studies and was ordained into the pastoral ministry in 1981. He has been a religion, German, History and Latin instructor at Shoreland Lutheran High School for the past 27 years. In addition to his teaching duties, he coached cross-country and track teams. His hobbies consisted of home construction projects, running with his daughters, and extensive traveling with his family. His love and devotion to his family, colleagues, students and friends was evident in all he did. He served his Lord by dutifully serving and helping others as Christ's example led him throughout his daily life. Faithful worship and praise to the Lord was a priority in his life as a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Racine. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Kathryn; five daughters, Christa (Darren) Holland, Janelle (Christopher) Jetzer, Gayle, Sharon (and her friend, Jake Correll of Oak Creek) and Julie Hintz; grandchildren, Leanne and Jacob Potter and Kalyn Holland, all of Racine. He is also survived by his mother, Eunice (Hageman) Hintz of Little Chute, sister Naomi (James) Jacobsen of Greenville, and brother Nathan (Jacquelyn) Hintz of Appleton. He is also mourned by his mother-in-law Ruth (Goers) Wollenburg of Lake Mills; father-in-law, Arlyn Wollenburg of Kingston; special aunt Rachel Goers of Milwaukee; brothers- in-law Frederick (Karen) Wollenburg of Dalton, Melvin (Debra) Wollenburg of Watertown and James (Lucy) Wollenburg of Harlingen, Texas; sisters-in-law Margaret (John) Lockhart of Columbus, and Mary (David) Mays of Lake Forest, IL. He is further mourned by many other relatives, co-workers, friends and students. He was preceded in death by his father Gerhard Hintz and uncles Sigismund and Erich. We rejoice that Stephen was a redeemed child of God by the perfect life, innocent death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We await a joyous reunion with him and all believers in heaven. The funeral service will be held Sunday, October 1st, 2006 at Shoreland Lutheran High School, 9026 12th St, Somers, WI at 4 pm. Visitation hours will be from 1-4 pm at Shoreland Lutheran High School prior to the funeral service. Memorial gifts may be directed to Shoreland Lutheran High School in lieu of flowers. The family wishes to thank the Critical Care staff at Kenosha Medical Center Campus, especially Dr. Peter Mariani and Stephen's dear friend Dr. Steven Bondow, for their compassionate care in the days preceding his death.
