~~     Stephen R. Schoening, 67, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 7, 2013. He was born in Racine on March 15, 1946, the son of Raymond and Ruth (nee: Wilhelmsen) Schoening. Steve graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in chemistry. He has been employed by WE Energies for over 40 years. On March 23, 1973, in the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, he was united in marriage to the former Susan Spencer.  Steve was a member of Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church, the WE Energies 20 Year Club, and the Belle City Brass Works. Surviving are his wife, Susan; 4 sons, Scott (Renee) Schoening, of Racine, Jack (Bria) Schoening, of Green Bay, Daniel (Julie) Schoening, of Oxford, AL, and  Benjamin (Melissa) Schoening, of Oakwood, GA; 8 grandchildren, with the 9th due in April, Samantha, Ethan, Austyn, Brynn, Jackson, Brandon, Miranda, and Liljaana; mother, Ruth Schoening, of Racine, brother, John (Lucy) Schoening, of San Francisco, CA; sister, Carol (Tom) Haertel. of Lynchburg, VA;  nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends also survive him. Steve was preceded in death by his father Raymond Schoening. A memorial service celebrating Steve's life will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, December 15th, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Kara Baylor officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers the family is establishing the Stephen R. Schoening Scholarship Fund at U.S. Bank.
