Obituary

Sylvia Marie Sohr, 94, passed away at Ridgewood Care Center on September 13, 2007. She was born in Racine on February 15, 1913, daughter of the late Niels and Carrie (nee: Schneeberger) Rask. She was married to Gordon M. Sohr, Sr. on July 17, 1932 in Crown Point, Indiana. Together, they built their home and their dreams, and lived the rest of their lives in Racine, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on June 17, 1984.

Sylvia worked for 40 years as a dispatcher for Wisconsin Bell, and she was a member of the Wisconsin Bell Pioneer Club retirees. Sylvia lived life to the fullest, and enjoyed new challenges. She loved to draw, and paint, and even took up sculpting when she was in her 80's. One of Sylvia's favorite passions was her Borzoi dogs that Sylvia and her husband raised and showed competitively. Another was for the rescue of all unsheltered and abused animals. She was a life member of the Borzoi Club of America, a life member of the Midwest Borzoi Club, and a member of the Wisconsin Kennel Club.

Sylvia touched the lives of many in her 94 years, and she is going to be greatly missed. Besides many close friends, she is survived by her son, Gordon Sohr, Jr., of Pompano Beach, Florida; daughter-in-law Pat Sohr of Florida; grandchildren, Linda Obermeit, and Gary (Belen) Ledger of California, Lori Ledger of Racine, Mark Sohr, Michael (Judit) Sohr, and Melissa (Chris) Loomis all of Florida, and Matthew (Jody) Sohr of N. Carolina; great-grandchildren, Tiffani Hamilton, Heidi, Lisa, Tamara, and Brandon Obermeit, and Austin Sohr; brother-in-law, Harland (Dorothy) Sohr of Racine, sister-in-law, Margaret Sohr of Florida, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Loren Ledger.

Memorial services for Sylvia will be held at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home 4600 County Line Rd, Racine, WI on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at 1:00 P.M. with Chaplain Gordon officiating. Sylvia was met at the Rainbow Bridge by all her family, friends, pets and animals that went home before she did.
