Martin
May 20, 1960 — Nov 19, 2022
CALEDONIA – Thomas J. Martin, 62, passed away and went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 19, 2022.
Thom was born in Racine on May 20, 1960, the son of Conrad and Sylvia (nee Jacobs) Martin. He graduated from Union Grove High School in 1978. Thom was employed with the State of Wisconsin Department of Health Services for 39 years, serving in various roles at Southern Wisconsin Center. There he served and cared for people with intellectual disabilities.
He married the love of his life Sherry Lou Nisen on August 18, 2000.
Thom was a man of profound faith – he loved Jesus. He was formerly a longtime member of Calvary Memorial Church and most recently, Racine Bible Church. He loved studying the Bible and reading biblical commentary daily for more than 30 years, and boldly shared the gospel wherever he went. Thom would handout gospel tracts to waiters, cashiers, and other people he met while out and about and would often pray with them.
He enjoyed several hobbies. Thom was fanatical about powerlifting and was a member of the Racine Southshore Powerlifting Team in the 1980's, setting multiple regional and State records. He was also a master artist and an accomplished pyrographer (wood burning artist). In addition, Thom loved motorcycle rides on his custom Harley and fishing trips with Sherry. He was happiest in the company of his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his loving wife Sherry, Thom is survived by his sons, Logan (Rebecca) Martin of Caledonia and Jacob Martin of Oak Creek; Logan and Rebecca's children, Elias, Gideon and Jonah; his mother, Sylvia Martin; his step-children, Brandi (Kevin) Kupper and their children, Brian (Ryelle), Brennan and Koltyn; Jessica (Adam) Modrow and their children, Conner, Allison and Lillian; Kayla (Josh Neiss) Cacciotti and their children, Maddie and Evelyn; Mike (Chelsey) Cacciotti and their children, Andi and Theo; his brothers and sister, Gary (Lisa) Martin, Lynn (Jim) Filipek, Steve (Carol) Martin; as well as many dear brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends. Thom was preceded in death by his father, Conrad Martin.
Family and friends are invited to meet at Racine Bible Church (12505 Spring Street in Mount Pleasant) on Saturday, November 26, 2022, for a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. A service celebrating and honoring Thom's life will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Spencer DeBurgh officiating. Memorials have been suggested to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission ( 830 N 19th St., Milwaukee, WI 53233 ) and Racine Bible Church global missions .
A special thank you to Thom's best friend, James Davis for all the love and support he provided to Thom .
