~~     Vernon T. Schattner, 89, passed away peacefully, in Wheaton Franciscan Hospital- All Saints, on Friday, July 24, 2015. Vern was born in the Town of Yorkville on February 11, 1926 the son of the late Edwin and Hattie (nee: Loppnow) Schattner. On June 14, 1947, in Pentecost Lutheran Church, he was united in marriage to Betty Langendorf. For nearly 30 years, Vern had been employed by Mettler-Toledo Scale, retiring in 1988. He was baptized into the faith as an infant at Trinity Lutheran Church, South Raymond. He learned the 23rd Palm for his confirmation and would often recite it throughout his entire life. He was a longtime member of Pentecost Lutheran Church and the church Senior Club. He was very active in his kid's lives. He was a 4-H member and showed the first Grand Champion Steer of the Racine County Fair, which he was very proud of. He also enjoyed being a 4-H leader for many years. He had a great love for the outdoors and enjoyed farming, gardening, fishing, hunting and taking his grandkids camping to his land in Lakewood, WI. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Betty; their children, Richard (Ingrid) Schattner, of Denver, CO, Leanne (Richard) Greil, of Waterford, Lois (Schattner) Perman, of Kenosha and forever son-in-law Robert Perman, of Racine; 12 grandchildren Joel Schattner, Kyle (Jenny) Schattner, Chrissy Schattner, Robert (Kerry) Greil, Rebecca (Jason) Rydzik, Reggie (Tiffany) Greil, Christopher (Heidi) Perman, Jennifer (Don Keller) Perman, Michael (Lauren) Perman, Paul (Natalie) Perman, Julie (Justin Hoffman) Perman and Michelle (Kevin Rogall) Perman; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Beverly and Joan Langendorf; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends including his close friend, Gilly Hagemann. In addition to his parents, Vern was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Don Langendorf. His funeral service will be held in Pentecost Lutheran Church, 2213 Coolidge Ave., on Monday, July 27th, at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Daniel Feldscher officiating. Visitation will be in the church on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Private burial will take place in West Lawn Memorial Park. The family has suggested memorials to Pentecost Lutheran Church.
