Virgil L. Coombs, age 74, died on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Aurora Medical Center in Summit, WI.  Born on January 7, 1952, he was the son of the late Everitt H. and Ethel (Brown) Coombs, Sr.

As a youth, Virgil sang with the YMCA's Boys' Choir.  In the summers, he liked to spend time staying with various relatives in the Shell Lake area.  Virgil liked to read westerns and enjoyed watching western movies, especially those with John Wayne. In his working years he labored at Racine Die Casting and Ganton Technologies.

He is survived by siblings, Gayle (Richard) Christianson, Everitt H. (Gail) Coombs, Jr., Vilas (Lisa Lein Hlavacke) Coombs, and Vaughn Hansen; many nieces and nephews, Todd Coombs, Dale Coombs, Tammy Benzow, Ken Coombs, Dianna Zicarelli, Denise Shilling, Nicole John, Lucas Coombs, Rachel Coombs, and Rory Coombs; friends, Roxanne (Dean) South, Ann Wallace, John, Debbie, and many other friends.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by Marlene (Coombs) Hansen; brother, Robert Coombs, and sister-in-law, Linda Coombs.

A visitation will be held at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.  Service will immediately follow at 4:30. A private burial will be held at Shell Lake Cemetery at a later date.
