VIRGIL N. SCHULTZ Sturtevant- Virgil N. Schultz, 85, passed away at All Saints-St. Mary's Medical Center on Monday, February 27, 2006. He was born on June 27, 1920 in Emerald, WI to William and Vivian (nee: Kirk) Schultz. Virgil graduated from Glenwood City High School in 1938. He faithfully enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving from December 7, 1942 until December 7, 1945 in the 11th Amphibious Tractor Battalion and took part in the Battle of Iwo Jima. On October 5, 1946 he was united in marriage to Maryhope Elynor Johnson in Emerald, WI. She preceded him in death on July 26, 1992. Virgil had an extremely inventive mind and was very mechanically inclined. As a young man in Northern Wisconsin, he used old tractor parts and a windmill on their family farm to run electric lights in their sheds and barn years before electricity was available in that rural area. Virgil worked most of his life as an electrician with Magaw Electric. Virgil was very active in politics in the Village of Sturtevant, where he had relocated shortly after WWII. He served several terms as a Village Trustee and one term as Village President. Surviving are his children, Daniel (Vicki) Schultz of Racine; Mark (Lisa) Schultz of Marietta, GA; Matthew (Briggette) Schultz of Greenville, SC; and Sarah Schultz of Milwaukee; daughter-in-law, Joann Schultz of Sturtevant; six grandchildren, Daniel (Rebecca) Schultz of Milwaukee; Lora (Daniel) Reinders of Racine; Micah and Malachi Schultz of Greenville, SC; Erin (Terrence) McDonnell of Chicago, IL; and Robyn Metz of Racine; three great-grandchildren, Anthony, Hannah and Isaac; brother, Clinton (Anita) Schultz of Manitowoc, WI; his beloved companion in later years, Martha Tucker-Pankow; many special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, Virgil was preceded in death by his step-father, Oscar Moe; brother, William; and sisters, Winifred, Gwendolyn and Loretta. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home, 4600 County Line Rd., on Friday, March 3, 2006 at 12:00 noon with Rev. David Behling officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Friday from 10 am – 12 noon. In memory of Virgil, memorials to the Disabled American Veterans or to one's favorite charity have been suggested.
