Dr. Wilbur A.Nimmer, Sr. – Physiatrist S.C., age 84, of Somers, died peacefully on Friday, September 20, 2013 at his home. He was born in Racine on November 1, 1928, the son of the late Albert and Lydia (nee: Kruse) Nimmer.

It is evident that Dr. Nimmer was a lifelong learner. He attended Racine schools and graduated from Washington Park High School. At age 16, he went on to study at Ripon College. After graduating from Ripon and receiving his Medical Degree from University of California, he completed his medical residency.  Dr. Nimmer began practicing medicine in Sturtevant – where he built a clinic and drug store. For a period of time, he served as the Medical Director for the Sturtevant Fire Department. In 1953, he completed a Doctor of Osteopathy degree through the Chicago College of Osteo Medicine. Following, Dr. Nimmer became Chief of Staff for the Rehabilitation Institute in Chicago in 1968. He also practiced and conducted electromyography / nerve conduction studies at St. Catherine's (1972-1989), Kenosha Memorial (1972-1989), St. Mary's (1972-1995) and St. St. Luke's (1972-1995) Hospitals. He served as a diplomat on the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Northwestern University in Chicago. Dr. Nimmer was a Professor Emeritus.

Some of his other accomplishments, just to name a few – member of the Fellow American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation; Fellow American Osteopathic College of Rehabilitation Medicine – Past President; consultant for the National Institute of Health Rehabilitation for Cancer; Professor PM & R Feinberg School at Northwestern University; Professor at Medical College of Wisconsin; and served 12 years as a Professor and Chairman of PM & R Midwestern University. Dr. Nimmer was honored in "Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare" and "Who's Who in America" 2002-2003.

Dr. Nimmer loved to be outdoors…. walking around his farm where he enjoyed countless hours of pleasure with what he found to be the natural beauty of God's country. He was also an accomplished wood carver.

Dr. Nimmer is survived by four sons, Alan Nimmer of Union Pier, MI; Wilbur Nimmer, Jr. of Somers; Peter Nimmer of Springport, IN; and James (Krista) Nimmer of Indianapolis, IN; and two grandchildren, Aidan (Dr. Timothy) Kao and Loran Nimmer, both of Minneapolis, MN. In addition to his parents, Dr. Nimmer was preceded in death by his beloved sons, David Nimmer of Racine; and Steven Nimmer of Sturtevant.

Private funeral services were held in the Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 . Pastor Mark Doidge officiated. Interment followed in Graceland Cemetery.
