William "Bill" Elwood, 96, passed peacefully surrounded by family on July 11, 2021.

He was a proud Navy veteran, having served 22 years including tours of duty during World War II and the Korean War.  He was stationed aboard the USS Missouri during the Korean War and later became a lifetime member of the USS Missouri Association.  After retiring from the Navy in 1965, Bill worked at Allen-Bradley for 16 years.  In recognition of his two decades of military service, Bill was thrilled to take part in the Honor Flight program in 2010.  It was one of the highlights of his life to be flown back to Washington DC, to visit the memorials dedicated to veterans of the wars in which he proudly served. Bill was an avid card player who especially loved playing Bridge and Sheepshead. He also enjoyed writing poetry and solving puzzles.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Shirley; children, Bonnie, Sally, Dean, Wayne; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and brothers, Stuart and Fred.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held on Monday, July 19, 2021, 5:00pm, at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, 4600 County Line Road.  Visitation will be from 3:00pm until the time of the service.  Bill will be laid to rest at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.
