Winnie Jackson

Dec 23, 1925 – Dec 26, 2006

Winnie Jackson, 81, died at her residence on Tuesday, December 26, 2006. She was born in Warren, Arkansas on December 23, 1925, the daughter of the late Ed and Nannie (Newton) York. On Sept. 8, 1956, here in Racine she was united in marriage to Rev. Nasree Jackson, who preceded her in death on April 28, 1996. Mrs. Jackson had been employed by St. Mary’s Hospital for over 25 years, retiring in November of 1990. She was a longtime member of Greater Mt. Eagle Missionary Baptist Church, where her husband served as Pastor. She was also a member of the Mother Board at the Church. Mrs. Jackson enjoyed going to rummage sales and shopping for really good buys. Her 3 greatest loves were her God, her family and her church. Surviving are her children, Alnita (Elmer) Johnson, Delilah (Larry) Hall, Deborah Lewis, Nathan (Betty) Jackson, and Earlean Lambert, all of Racine; 18 grandchildren (including a very special granddaughter, Winnetta Jackson, of Racine); numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, her sister Sula Mae York of Warren, AR; sister-in-law Ruby York of Racine; special nephew Ira Strong very special friends Nellie Hardin, Brenda Harris and Linda Jackson all of Racine. Her nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and of course her church family further survive her. In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Willie, Brisco (Nadine), Leo, Vester, Andrew and Ivory York, Beulah (Ben) Shorter and Reola (Fred) Strong, Novella Ferguson. Her Homegoing Service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, January 2nd, at Greater Mt. Eagle Missionary Baptist Church, 929 State St. with Rev. Keith Evans officiating. Visitation will be in the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. The family has suggested memorials to the church.
