Johnnie Mae Crawford

Jun 29, 1930 – Nov 26, 2005

Johnnie Mae Crawford, 75, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2005 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Johnnie was born on June 29, 1930 in Tuskegee, Alabama to the late John and Matilda Crawford. She attended Cotton Valley Grammar School and graduated from Tuskegee Institute High School. She was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church. Johnnie moved to Chicago at the age of 19. She resided there for 51 years until moving to Racine in 2002. Johnnie loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards and was an avid bingo player. Above all she was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She leaves to cherish her precious memory six children, Larry Crawford, Tyrice (David) Ellis, LaVetta Griffin, Clark Crawford, Beverly Crawford and Rae (Phillip) White; twelve grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brothers, Eugene Crawford, Richard (Panchita) Crawford, Robert (Doris) Crawford; sisters, Josie (Clarence) Free, Dorothy (Joseph) Bailey, Martha (Albert (deceased)) Green, Ethel Jean (Richard) West; special friend, Florence Gray and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Johnnie was preceded in death by her dear friend, Sarah Canady. Funeral services were celebrated on Saturday, December 3, 2005 at 10:00 am with Rev. Virginia Lackey officiating. Interment followed at Calvary Cemetery. Viewing was held on Saturday from 9-10 am. Memorials to the family have been suggested.
