Stanley Anthony Stanton

May 25, 1917 – Dec 18, 2005

STANLEY A. “DUKE” STANTON Racine- Stanley A. “Duke” Stanton, 88, passed away suddenly on Sunday, December 18, 2005 at the Becker-Shoop Center following a longtime struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Duke was born in Rockford, IL on May 25, 1917 and had lived in Racine for most of his entire life. He faithfully served our Country with the United States Coast Guard in the Atlantic and Mediteranean during WWII from 1942-45. On October 29, 1947 in Waukegan,IL, Duke was united in marriage to the love of his life, Dorothy Mae Gouley. He was employed by the Dumore Corp. as a machinist retiring after 34 years of service. Duke was a longtime member of St. Lucy Catholic Church; VFW Post 1391; and the YMCA. Stanley acquired the nickname “Duke” as he was an awesome boxer, winning the Wisconsin State Golden Gloves Championship in the 1930’s. Years ago, he enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing softball. Above all, he loved and cherished being in the surroundings of his entire family. Surviving are his loving wife, Dorothy; twin sons, Daniel and Donald (Lori) Stanton of Chandler, AZ; son, Dean (Lois) Stanton of Racine; grandchildren, Craig, Jacob, Deana, Casey and Annie Stanton; sisters-in-law, Estelle Stanton of Rockford and Marion Stanton of Racine; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, too numerous to mention by name. Duke was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Zukowski; brothers, Frank Stanton, Leonard Stanton, Sr., and Eugene (Ann) Stanton; and sister-in-law, Marie (Herbert) Elvers. Funeral services, with military honors, will be held in the funeral home, 4600 County Line Rd., on Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at 6:00 pm with Rev. Jeffrey M. Thielen officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 – 6:00 pm. In accordance with Duke’s wishes, cremation will follow the services and private inurnment will take place on Thursday in West Lawn Memorial Park. A special note of thanks to the entire staff at Becker-Shoop Center for the wonderful care, patience and support that was so warmly extended to our husband/ dad, and to our family. Your generosity and kindness will always be remembered!
