Racine- Margaret “Margie” J. Smerz, 62, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday morning, September 11, 2006 following her courageous battle with cancer since January 1, 2004. Margie was born in Columbus County, North Carolina on January 19, 1944 to Lonza Ray and Mary Ellen (nee: Tompkins) Sellers. A graduate of Lincoln High School in Milwaukee, she went to manage Adelman Poly-Prim Dry Cleaners. Following, Margie earned many automotive certifications to enhance her 22-year career as manager of Car-X Muffler and Brake Shop in Racine. Margie was a 46 year member of the Church of God of Prophecy where she served as a Sunday School teacher for over 16 years. Among her interests, she enjoyed fishing, camping, admiring flowers and was an avid Packer fan. Above all, she loved and cherished being in the surroundings of her entire family. May she rest in peace. Surviving are her beloved husband, George Smerz; daughters, Cynthia (Glen) Hargraves and Tammie (fiancé, Raymond Cole) Tylock, all of Racine; grandchildren, Christy (fiancé, Matthew Cote), Joshua, and Sarah Hargraves; Jennifer and John-Paul “J.P.” (fiancé, Cassandra Brau) Smerz; mother, Mary E. Sellers of Grand Marsh, WI; grandmother, Pearl Tompkins of Tabor City, N.C.; brothers, Mitchell (Mary) Sellers of Milwaukee and Rev. Earl (Sheila) Sellers of Orrum, N.C; brothers-in-law, Allen (Ilga) Smrz of Schaumburg, IL and Francis Smrz of Las Vegas, NV; special friends, Annie Ruth Buffkins and Lucy; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name. Margie was preceded in death by her father, Lonza Ray Sellers; in-laws, George and Marie Smrz, Sr.; son-in-law, Gregory M. Tylock; nephew, Victor Sellers; and by numerous aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home, 4600 County Line Rd., on Saturday, September 16, 2006 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Friday from 5-8 pm and will continue on Saturday from 9-10 am. A heartfelt note of thanks the doctors, nurses and support staff at Wheaton Franciscan Hospice; Cancer Center; and Hospital (especially on 2C and 2D); and to our devoted neighbors and friends for the compassionate care and concern that was so warmly extended to Margie and to our family.
