
Racine- Alexander Palm, 74, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-All Saints on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 from pulmonary complications with recent heart surgery. Alex was born in Dallas, Texas on August 30, 1932. Shortly after, he moved to Warren, MN where he was raised by his beloved grandmother, Ellen Palm. Al served our Country with the United States Army during the Korean War. He became a permanent Racine resident as a young adult. On September 1, 1962 he was united in marriage to Lois J. Ahles in St. Lucy Catholic Church. Alex was a passionate and dedicated member of St. Lucy’s, where he had served as an altar assistant, 4:00 pm Mass usher, and was a tireless annual festival volunteer. Proud of his faith, he actively participated in the monthly Catholic Men’s organization. Alex was employed by Racine County Public Works, working mostly on Durand Ave. road maintenance for 29 years, retiring in 1994. Soon after his retirement, never being able to sit still, Al began his second career with the Bank of Elmwood, working up until his first hospital visit on August 14, 2006. Outside his devotion to his wife, church and employers, Al loved being in the surroundings of his entire family, especially his cherished nieces and nephews. Surviving are his loving wife of 44 years, Lois; sister, Jean Wells; father-in-law, Frank Ahles; aunt, Rubye Dallum; brother-in-law, Joseph Ahles; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Palm and Renate Palm; nieces and nephews, Desiree Verdiguel, Gordon Ahles, Wallace Robbins, Kurt Simonsen and Kelly (Lenny) Robbins. Al is further survived by great-nieces and nephews, cousins, co-workers and friends. Alex was preceded in death by his mother, Leah Palm; grandmother, Ellen Palm; brothers, Leland and Jack (Carolyn) Palm; mother-in-law, Pearl Ahles; aunt, Margaret (Dick) Meekma; sister-in-law, Sandra Ahles; niece, Kim Robbins; nephew, Robert Simonsen; and cousin, Gary Knudson. Funeral services for Alex will be held in the funeral home, 4600 County Line Rd., on Sunday, October 1, 2006 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Mark R. Jones officiating. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Sunday from 12 – 2 pm. Private interment will take place in West Lawn Memorial Park on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested. A special note of thanks to wonderful nurses and staffs at All Saints ICU, Radiology, Respiratory and Cardiac Depts.; to Dr. Stone, Dr. Bader and Dr. Bartlett; to the hospital clergy and Fr.
