James Shade Edwards

Jul 13, 1912 – Sep 29, 2006

James Shade Edwards, 94, passed away at his residence on Friday, September 29, 2006. He was born in Jonesboro, Indiana on July 13, 1912, the son of David and Lula (nee: Berry) Edwards. He was united in holy matrimony to Mary Jones in Gas City, Indiana, who after 70 years of marriage preceded him in death on December 21, 2005. Mr. Edwards lived most of his life in Indiana, and retired from Emge Packing Company in 1975. In 1986 he moved to Racine to be closer to his son, David. He liked to travel, especially when Mary was along with him. He also enjoyed gardening and yard work, and was known for his “green thumb” when it came to his roses. He was a member of St. Lucy’s Catholic Church. Mr. Edwards is survived by his grandchildren, James B. (Barbara) Edwards of Round Rock, Texas, Daniel J. (Valerie) Edwards of West Allis, Ronald Edwards, and Angela (Enoc) Garcia both of Racine; great grandchildren, David, Matthew, Benjamin, Adrianna, William, Samuel, and Isabella Edwards, Vana, Esperanza, and Ruby Garcia; his former daughters-in-law, Constance Edwards and Jo Ann Edwards both of Racine; many other relatives and friends. Mr. Edwards was also preceded by his son, David J. Edwards; and his brothers, Marion Edwards and John Edwards. The funeral mass for James S. Edwards will be held at St. Lucy’s Catholic Church, 3101 Drexel Avenue, on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Mark R. Jones officiating. Entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Highway 32, will follow. All are invited to visit with the family in the church on Tuesday beginning at 10:00 a.m. Memorials to St. Lucy’s School have been suggested.

Testimonials

October 9, 2020

I would like to thank Mike Langendorf, Bill Althaus and the rest of the staff for the wonderful celebration of the life for my father Raymond L. Szymanski who was a WWII veteran. I especially appreciate how much you really listen and the questions you asked regarding who my father was and what he was all about. Those details showed up in every part of the service from the flowers, the music, the thank you’s, pictures, obituary, outdoor military honors, etc. etc. My father would have been so grateful for the way you honored his life. I also received phone calls from family and friends indicating how beautiful the service was in every way. You and your staff definitely go above and beyond. You treat everyone like family and your compassion is so genuine. There should be more people in the world just like all of you. No words can express our gratitude for all you have done for myself, my father and our family. Thank you so very much and may the Lord bless you and yours! Sincerely Terri Carls and the Szymanski Family

Theresa Lynn Carls
