Mary Heisler

Aug 1, 1923 – Oct 7, 2006

Racine- Mary E. Heisler, 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 7, 2006 at the Ridgewood Care Center. She was born in Joliet, IL on August 1, 1923 to the late Martin John and Theresa (nee: Schroll) Eisenman. Mary was a longtime Racine/Sturtevant resident but had also lived in Hurley from 1967 until 1988. On February 14, 1942 in Holy Communion Lutheran Church, Mary was united in marriage to William G. Heisler, who preceded her in death on August 24, 2000. She was a charter member of Sturtevant Lutheran Church, now known as Faith Lutheran Church, and had attended Christ Church United Methodist. Prior to her retirement, Mary had been employed as a machinist at Aircraft Instruments. She was a proud and active member of the M.O.C “Cooties”, serving as National Chaplain from 1981-1982. A tireless and dedicated Veteran supporter, Mary was a regular visitor and helped at various VA facilities, making crafts and other useful items, including over 3500 red, white and blue lap blankets, for vets in need. In addition, she enjoyed square dancing, gardening, bowling, knitting and crocheting. Above all, she cherished being in the surroundings of her entire family and truly loved being a grandmother. Surviving are her children, Laura (Steven) Johnson, Russell (Germaine) Heisler, both of Racine; Marjorie Steinmetz of Kenosha; and William (Linda) Heisler, Jr. of Sturtevant; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Lucille Eisenman and Marguerite Cannon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her brothers, Joe, Jack and Martin Jr. Eisenman; sister, Veronica; infant sister, Katarina; sons-in-law, William Steinmetz and Thomas Fesko; brother-in-law, Charles W. Cannon; and by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be celebrated in the funeral home, 4600 County Line Rd., on Friday, October 20th, 2006 at 11:00 am with Rev. Awilda Nolla officiating. Inurnment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. There will be time to visit with her family in the funeral home on Friday, October 20th, from 10-11 am. In memory of Mary, memorials to the Disabled American Veterans have been suggested. A special note of thanks to the entire staff at Ridgewood Care Center for the compassionate end-of-life care and support that was so warmly extended to our Mom. God bless all of you!

Testimonials

From a daughter

My parents told me of your kindness, generosity, and servitude when we lost my brother. They needed that strength and your light came through. Thank you.
